‘Deadpool 3’ Trailer: Deadpool and Wolverine Finally Enter the MCU

If you told us five years ago that Disney would green-light a scene about pegging in one of its flagship film releases, we would have called you crazy, but alas, 2024 is a year of new beginnings. In the first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, the long-awaited next instalment in Ryan Reynolds‘ foul-mouthed superhero saga, the sword-wielding star confirms that we all “deserve a happy ending”, in one way or another. Confronted with a series of goons armed with batons, the quick-witted Wade Wilson cooly responds ‘Is that supposed to be scary? Pegging isn’t new to me friendo, but it is for Disney’, before giving a trademark fourth wall-breaking look down the camera barrel. Yep, it seems as though nothing has changed.

Unveiled during Super Bowl LVIII, the first official Deadpool & Wolverine trailer confirms much of the speculation surrounding the film, including Hugh Jackman’s ambitious return as the clawed antihero. The teaser starts out innocuous enough, with Deadpool’s alter-ego Wade Wilson celebrating a birthday with friends, however, the party is crashed by a mob of TVA agents who kidnap our hero and personally invite him into the MCU.

Naturally, the transition proves a little less than smooth, with Deadpool forced to slice a few throats and kill a few people along the way, and he does so with the help of an old nemesis. Jackman’s Wolverine spectacularly leaps back into the MCU in the final seconds of the trailer, confirming his traditional yellow suit, as per the initial leaks a few months back.

Admittedly, the teaser does a great job of playing its cards close to its chest, revealing little about the plot or character list, however, reports have suggested that we will see a few old favourites head back into the mix.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. In addition to Levy, Marvel head Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers. Deadpool & Wolverine will hit in Australian and New Zealand cinemas on July 25. Until then, revel in the unbridled carnage that is the first trailer.
