Peaky Blinders Season 6 Release Date

The sixth and final season of the long-running underworld period drama Peaky Blinders premiered on February 27, 2022. The announcement from the iconic British network BBC was confirmed in spectacular fashion, with the release date revealed via a 42-foot high mural in Birmingham (pictured) – the town where the much-loved series is predominantly set.

“Peaky is back and with a bang,” creator and writer Steven Knight previously said in a statement about the upcoming season. “After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

The final season of the hit show The Real Thomas Shelby of Peaky Blinders. Creator and writer Steven Knight previously confirmed the sixth instalment would mark an end to the Peaky story and would feature almost all characters returning in some capacity. Murphy reprised his role as family patriarch Tommy, Paul Anderson as his troubled brother Arthur, Finn Cole as the devilish Michael, Anya Taylor-Joy as the charming Gina Grey and Sophie Rundle as Ada, with Tom Hardy returning his fan favourite role as the scheming brutalist Alfie. But perhaps most interesting of all was the introduction of Stephen Graham.

The well-known actor who made his start in Guy Ritchie’s Snatch before going on to dominate the screen as Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire and John Corbett in the latest series of Line of Duty is set to play a villainous antagonist pitted against the Shelbys. The as-yet-unnamed character was slated to drive a wedge between Tommy and his family, but just what that looks like, remains your guess.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 Plot

The Peaky Blinders follows a group of gangsters in Birmingham, England and more importantly shows us the tales of the Shelby Family. Tommy Shelby remains the key figure and by far, one of the most interesting characters on television.

In the first season of Peaky Blinders, we were introduced to the Shelbys after WW1, a family of illegal bookies who fall afoul of a gun-running racket. Like with all gangsters, there are brewing rivalries and betrayals. The consecutive seasons followed a similar route with enemies pilling up for Tommy Shelby from Russians to Italian mobsters. Some famous names appear on the cast list, like Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons (our fan favourite).

The love between Grace and Tommy gives us that little bit of drama and romance but it all falls apart when she dies in Season 3. Tommy buries himself into his politics becoming the Labour MP for Birmingham South at the end of season 4 but neglects his son Charlie and doesn’t seem to care that he’s got another child on the way.

We hit play on Season 5 late last year, and it’s 1929, 10 years since the first season and Wall Street has just crashed. The Shelby family continue to struggle, Tommy has trouble being a father, and we meet Oswald Mosley. Based on a real historical figure, Oswald is a fascist and the villain for this season. The Billy Boys also make their way onto the screen, and we see Tommy threatened from all sides. The finale is what has everyone in an uproar with the unsuccessful attempt to kill Oswald and Tommy going mental. But it’s Tommy screaming into the foggy wind with the gun to his head that stuck in our minds.

So who snitched? That’s the real question and hopefully one we will get the answer to. There’s a mountain of theories, one pointing the finger to Michael. But until you watch, you’ll have to revel in the fact that season 6 is coming for us and possibly a seventh. Knight recently told the BBC that the upcoming season is “the best yet,” leaving fans in more anticipation.

For the ending of the series, Knight has stated he wants redemption for Tommy. He’ll be the ‘good guy’ in the end, but it’ll be hard for us to get passed Tommy’s fiercely brutal persona.
