Aqua Rugby Returns to Manly Cove Next Month with Some Big Name Signings
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you mixed Hong Kong Sevens with the Monaco Grand Prix? Probably not. However, what was a fun idea thrown around at the pub six years ago has evolved into the flourishing new sport of Aqua Rugby. Returning for its second season with a bunch of big marquee signings, Australia’s first-ever floating rugby tournament is back to make a splash in Manly Cove this November.

So you may be asking yourself, “what the [email protected]# is Aqua Rugby?” Basically, it’s a quirky version of Rugby played on a 30 x 30-metre floating pontoon. Players have to dive off the floating pitch into the water to score a try and can be crashed tackled off the side. If it’s anything like last year, prepare to see an abundance of big hits and big splashes.
The action on the floating pontoon is set to go up another level with a mix of former and current rugby greats as well as up-and-coming rugby talent playing in both the Men’s and Women’s formats. This year’s marquee signings include the likes of featuring marquee signings including All Black great Ma’a Nonu, Wallaby legend Drew Mitchell, Wallaroo superstars Sera Naiqama & Sharni Williams, Dave Dennis, James Graham, plus many more.
In addition to the stars, over 350 local players from around Australia will descend upon Manly to compete for the Aqua Rugby trophy. Celebrating culture and diversity, Aqua Rugby will feature teams including the Sydney Convicts (LGBTQIA+ team), Lloyd McDermott Indigenous team, Army and Navy sides and 12 women’s teams – and many more invitational teams who make this sport accessible for all.

Fans can watch the action for free from the beach and promenade, with food, music, activations and play zones for kids taking place along the shoreline. Or if you’re feeling boujee, Aqua Rugby is offering premium hospitality packages that include a ticket to one of five yachts lining the floating pitch for a premium viewing experience. Tickets start from AU$95.
For those living outside of Sydney but want to participate in the weekend shenanigans, Aqua Rugby has partnered with EnPerso Travel to build a range of travel packages, offering anyone outside of Sydney the ultimate Aqua Rugby experience, including accommodation, flights, yacht hospitality tickets, plus additional experiences all over Sydney. You will also have the chance to enter and win an ultimate experience at the Aqua Rugby competitions page.
The second season of the three-day Aqua Rugby Festival on the water will take place from Thursday 10th to Saturday 12th of November. For tickets and more information, visit the Aqua Rugby website.
