Sneaker News #30 – Two Shoes Collide in Ballsy Nike and Sacai Collaboration
Welcome to Sneaker News #30. The old meets the new this week as Nike and sacai deliver their latest collaboration with the ‘Vaporwaffle’, combining the Vaporfly and the 1983 Pegasus. Nike is also delivering new colourways of the Pegasus ’83 on its own and reviving a highly sought after Air Force 1 colourway. Meanwhile, adidas continues to innovate with the Forum silhouette and On Running delivers an eye-catching performance shoe. Check it all out plus new releases from Reebok and Vans below.
Nike x sacai ‘Vaporwaffle’
Japanese fashion brand sacai has a history of playing with Nike silhouettes and the VaporWaffle is no different. sacai have collided two Nike shoes, bringing together the Vaporfly and the 1983 Pegasus with a groundbreaking outcome. Two different silhouettes in one means double the details with two swooshes, two tongues, and two mid-soles gracing the shoes. Pictured is the sesame and blue void drop but they also come in dark iris. Prepare to act fast when they drop 29th April at Nike.
Nike Air Pegasus ’83
If you’re after the Pegasus ’83 on its own, you’re in luck too. Nike has gone into the archives and revived a classic, bringing back all its original charm with a few comfort updates. Since the ’80s, this Pegasus has moved from a running shoe to a popular lifestyle shoe and it’s easy to see why. Light smoke grey and blue void adorn the upper of this colourway giving it a sleek, classic look. Pick them up from Nike on 30th April.
Nike Air Jordan 11 Low
What’s cooler than being cool? Ice cold. Lame jokes aside, the ‘Legend Blue’ colourway of the new Air Jordan 11 Low is pretty damn cool. Originally debuted as the Columbia back in 1996, it’s once again returning with a crisp white upper and blue translucent outsole. It’s the 25th Anniversary of the Air Jordan 11 Low and these shoes celebrate it with a ’25’ on the insole and, of course, a ’23’ on the heel. Subtype currently has them listed as “Coming Soon”.
adidas x Human Made Forum
adidas is making sure it’s a big year for the Forum. Bad Bunny has already delivered two versions of the shoes and now Japanese streetwear label Human Made is taking them on. The silhouette of the upper remains more or less the same but Boost cushioning has been added just below a tab on the heel that reads “Gears for Futuristic Teenagers”. It’s the past meeting the future. They’re available right now to purchase from adidas.
Vans Vault x Taka Hayashi EPOCH Racer Lx
Vault by Vans designer Taka Hayashi has delivered his final piece of the Vans Vault Spring ’21 collection giving us the EPOCH Racer Lx. This is Hayashi’s take on a retro driving shoe, giving us a fresh upper design combined with the already-existent AVE Pro outsole. “The low profile outsole just sat well with the new upper design,” Hayashi wrote on Instagram. Pictured is the chilli pepper colourway which brings together suede and nylon. Grab them now from Subtype.
Nike Air Force 1 ’07 QS ‘Acorn’
Nike is reviving the Air Force 1 in the ‘Acorn’ colourway for the first time since its 2002 debut. Brown shades have become more and more popular in footwear over the past year or so and it’s likely the ‘Acorn’ is only going to prove that further. A sleek, caramel leather upper meets beige canvas creating a ’70s look. That’s complemented by a stark white mid-sole undercut by dark brown treads. Catch a pair from Subtype “soon”.
Reebok x Braindead Zig Kinetica II
LA-based creative collective Brain Dead is bringing a little bit of Sci-fi to the Reebok Kinetica II shoes. They look as futuristic as they feel delivering tie-dye patterns and colourful swirls outside of Lightweight Floatride Fuel cushioning wrapped in a Zig Energy Shell designed to unleash a wave of energy. They also have an engineered mesh upper for maximum breathability. Grab them now from Reebok.
On Running Cloudswift Edge Prism
If you’re looking to bring a little bit of pizzaz to your feet while running the Cloudswift Edge Prism is the shoe. The all-day lifestyle and running shoes have a two-tone iridescent look thanks to “clever weaving techniques”, as the brand puts it. Meanwhile, the bottom unit is designed for maximum performance with superfoam and a Speedboard for your “natural rolling motion”. Nab them from Subtype now.
