The average Australian meat pie weighs roughly 180 grams, and adidas has already added the tomato sauce. At exactly 177 grams for a standard UK 8.5, the new adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 is officially lighter than your lunch. The brand reimagined its flagship marathon silhouette by borrowing heavily from the record-breaking Evo 3, dropping 23 grams of bulk (a 12 per cent reduction) to create a lighter race-day experience without sacrificing underfoot stability.

While we’ve tested the best running shoes for men, this 177-gram release completely changes how we (and adidas) approach carbon-race-day shoes. Debuting in a monochrome red ripstop, the premier pair adds black branding striking across the side panels and waving through the massive midsole. Gone are the ENERGYRODS that mirror your foot bones. The Pro 5 relies on an all-new carbon-infused ENERGYRIM. This structural ring wraps around the perimeter of the midsole, opening up the central space to pack in a much greater volume of LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam directly beneath your foot.

By combining the rim’s perimeter stiffness with upgraded central cushioning, the shoe delivers a calculated 9 per cent increase in energy return compared to the outgoing Adios Pro 4. Isn’t this starting to sound like a new iPhone release?

The shoe officially launched globally on September 22, 2026, and is available in unisex sizing both in-store and online for AUD$380 through the adidas app and select retail partners, such as Up There Athletics.

Shedding Weight With the LIGHTLOCK 2.0 Upper and ENERGYRIM

When you’re running 42.2 kilometres, every gram matters. The Adizero Adios Pro 5 tips the scales at an average of 177 grams, which is a 12 per cent reduction compared to the outgoing Pro 4.

adidas achieved this by completely redesigning the upper. The new LIGHTLOCK 2.0 construction utilises a lightweight ripstop fabric that cuts excess material and adds engineered ventilation zones to dump heat. Then on the inside, an internal support band works alongside an updated heel construction to create a secure fit, stopping your foot from shifting inside the shoe and wasting energy.

The brand then took a retrospective look at its plate technology. For years, their racing shoes were focused on carbon-infused ENERGYRODS that mirrored the metatarsal bones in your foot. They’ve completely scrapped that system. Instead, the Pro 5 relies on an all-new carbon-infused ENERGYRIM. Upgraded Foam and Continental Traction

But a highly responsive foam setup isn’t helpful if you slide out on wet roads or tight corners. To fix the traction, adidas built a re-engineered outsole using data-driven LIGHTTRAXION technology. They mapped the specific high-wear zones of elite runners and applied Continental rubber to guarantee lightweight grip and improved durability over long distances.

The Adizero Adios Pro 5 officially launched globally on September 22, 2026, and it’s available in unisex sizing for AUD$380 (USD$275) through adidas below and selected retail partners in-store and online.
