Welcome to Sneaker News #60. This week, it’s all about adidas and Gucci as the two brands edge closer to releasing their highly anticipated footwear collection centring around the Gazelle silhouette. There are plenty more collabs to get excited about though including a new Nike and Off-White drop and adidas’ fourth team-up with Wales Bonner. Elsewhere, ASICS is making leaps in the running market and Reebok is back with Eames for a bold new drop. Check it all out and more below.
adidas x Gucci Gazelle
adidas x Gucci is one of the most hyped collaborative collections of the year and it’s finally making its way to the public. The silhouette that Gucci has decided to focus on is the Gazelle and it pulls inspiration from the ’80s and ’90s. Pictured here is the green and purple colourway which is carried out on a velvet and Demetra upper and undercut by a sleek gum mid-sole. Available on 7th July, they carry a hefty price tag which should come as a surprise to no one.
Nike Dunk Low Copy/Paste
Another week, another Nike Dunk drop that’s going to sell out in seconds. Nike is getting self-referential with the ‘Copy/Paste’ by exaggerating its branding on the French terry underlays. The overlays are a little more subtle colour-blocking Grey Fog, Smoke Grey, and Wolf Grey to give the shoes a somewhat sleek finish, despite the bold print. They’re due to drop at Nike on 21st June so have your finger at the ready.
Nike Air Force 1 Mid x Off-White
Off-White comes through with another boundary-pushing Nike collaboration, this time twisting the Air Force 1 to its limits. The classic silhouette is almost unrecognisable, distorted by a spikey outsole that makes the shoes look like they’re straight from the future. As always with the Off-White x Nike drops, the shoes feature Flywire cables giving them that trademark industrial look. It’s an experimental drop far ahead of its time. Get ready to cop at Nike on 23rd June.
Nike Air Jordan 2 x Maison Château Rouge
Parisian fashion label Maison Château Rouge is releasing a whole collaborative collection with Nike but it’s the Jordan 2 that has us falling in love. This drop celebrates global youth culture with detailing that reads “UNITED YOUTH INTERNATIONAL” and “CHICAGO DAKAR PARIS”. The upper features a subtle, neutral base that is elevated by pops of colour in the stitching and Orange overlays. They look expensive and that’s because they are, carrying a higher price point than most Jordan 2 releases. Be at the ready on 24th June.
ASICS Metaspeed Sky+ and Metaspeed Edge+
ASICS has had a breakthrough with its long-distance running shoes and the Metaspeed has been breaking records and claiming medals globally. Now, they’re getting another update which is set to take it to another level using increased volumes of the FF BLAST™ TURBO foam and more targeted placement of the product’s carbon plates. The Sky+ is aimed at stride runners while the Edge+ is for those with a cadence style. There are limited sizes left on ASICS right now so you’ll have to jump on them quickly if you want to move at the speed of light.
Reebok x EAMES Classic Leather
Reebok and EAMES come together once again for one of the most eye-catching collabs they’ve ever conceived together. The shoes centre around the famous EAMES elephant which appears as a large leather overlay atop the laces. Working with the Classic Leather silhouette, EAMES also puts its signature style into them by taking over the sockliner and the tongue. They are set for release at Subtype on 21st June.
adidas x Wales Bonner Samba
adidas and Wales Bonner have teamed up once again for a summer collection centring around the Samba. It’s their fourth collection and once again it pulls inspiration from ’70s and ’80s with Bonner using the Samba once again for what has now become a classic annual drop. This time around, it arrives in two colourways with one delivering a red upper and the other giving a white upper with green accents. Both combine a gum midsole with a premium leather and suede upper. It’s an instant classic. Head over to Highs and Lows to enter the raffle now.
