The trend of strong New Balance collaborations continues with New Balance and Australia’s own ‘Up There Store’ rounding out the year in style with the second round of the ‘Backyard Legends’ series. A follow-up to their smash hit 2002R silhouette from earlier this year, the shoe is set to release from 8 am AEDT Friday the 9th of December. A global online release will follow the next day from 8 am AEDT Saturday the 10th of December with a full range of sizing for men and women.
After the success of the first shoe, it’s nice to see New Balance give another nod to an Aussie favourite. In designing the shoe, Pat from Up There floated across the Pacific Ocean for almost a year, ending up in California where he decided to draw from hints of Americana.
It starts with the uppers, where the synthetic materials have been subbed out for American-made Wolverine suede. You’ll find the same springy N-ERGY sole unit and techy upper that makes the 2002R as comfortable as ever, while the signature details of the first Backyard Legends remain, including the iconic “AUS” branding on the tongue. Just like the first edition, the colourway is perfect, with a natural use of colour including burgundies and even hints of lime green on the 2002R logo up front.
The M2002RUP ‘Backyard Legends II’ will release exclusively through Up There with an in-store release from 8 am AEDT Friday the 9th of December and a global online release the following day from 8 am AEDT Saturday the 10th of December. Sizing will range from a men’s US5 through to US13 (including US5.5 through to US11.5) and will be available for $250AUD.
