OMEGA x Swatch Launch New Mission On Earth ‘MoonSwatch’ Models: Polar Lights, Lava, and Desert

It seems the OMEGA x Swatch ‘MoonSwatch’ collaboration just can’t stop launching new missions. Following the recent launch of the Black Snoopy MoonSwatch, a new trio of non-limited Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission On Earth models was announced today, which pay a fitting tribute to our precious oasis of a planet hurtling through space and are among the most striking the collab has produced thus far.

Release information: The watches will be available exclusively via selected Swatch stores from Saturday, June 15. All three models—Polar Lights, Lava, and Desert—will be priced at AU$435. They draw inspiration from the earthly natural phenomena of volcanic lava, the Aurora Borealis, and our deserts.

Mission On Earth – Polar Lights

While all three releases are welcome additions to the ‘MoonSwatch’ family, our pick has to be the Mission On Earth—Polar Lights, which pays tribute to the mesmerising light show seen dancing across the far north of our planet’s night sky.

Like the event that inspired it, the watch’s turquoise is the star of this particular show, closely followed by the watch’s blue dial, which is studded with little “stars” of tiny silver-coloured flakes, inspired by the aventurine glass dials of particular OMEGA watches. Each dial features a different layout of these “stars”—making every watch unique—while the numerals and indexes on each subdial use the radial format, à la the Speedmaster in OMEGA’s Alaska II and III projects.

Mission On Earth – Lava

Turning from the skies to more terrestrial matters, the Mission On Earth – Lava watch brings an appropriately fierce level of heat. Inspired by the approximately 1,670 active volcanoes today and the lava, ash, and gas that fuel their explosive temperament, this watch’s red and orange hues embody the danger and wonder that has made volcanoes a fascinating phenomenon for millennia.

Plus, in addition to its tribute to one of the most violent acts of nature we earth-bound creatures are able to witness, the Mission On Earth – Lava timepiece’s orange chronograph hand provides a nod to OMEGA’s 1968 Speedmaster Moonwatch “Ultraman” model, which boasted the same.

Moonswatch mission on earth desert

Mission On Earth – Desert

From one form of intense heat to another, the Mission On Earth – Desert is a homage to the vast expanses of sand that cover over one-fifth of the Earth’s land surface. Particular inspiration has been drawn from the largest desert in the world—the Sahara— spanning over 9 million square kilometres of North Africa and with temperatures that regularly reach over 50°C.

For a tribute to this extremely dry environment, the Mission On Earth – Desert serves up a case and hands in an appropriately sandy shade, while the dial and strap are presented in taupe. It’s a striking-looking piece and should make a particularly desirable piece of wristwear for any Dune fans out there.

Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It

Whichever of the three new MoonSwatch timepieces catches your eye, you’ll find its mission statement on the caseback and the OMEGA X SWATCH logos on the dial and crown. A planet Earth design can be spotted on each battery cover, while the spacesuit-ready adjustable velcro straps while have you feeling ready to blast into orbit. Plus, hands and indexes are coated with Grade A Super-LumiNova for heightened visibility no matter your altitude.

Each of these additions to the MoonSwatch range will be available from selected Swatch stores starting from Saturday, June 15. While non-limited, we expect demand for these to keep availability limited, so get in early if you want to ensure you secure yours.
