Raymond Weil Freelancer front

When Swatch announced that they would be reducing the supply of ETA movements to brands that weren’t a part of the Swatch Group, a lot of watchmakers had to scramble to find alternative suppliers. Raymond Weil decided to team up with Sellita, a movement manufacturer, to create their own movement. What came of that partnership was the Calibre RW1212. The name of the movement reflects the postal code of Raymond Weil’s address in Grand-Lancy, a suburb of Geneva. The movement is designed in such a way as to reveal its escapement on the dial side at 6 o’clock. This design shows off the balance wheel mounted on two bridges, making the watch seem to almost be a tourbillon. You can see more of the movement through the sapphire crystal display case back. The rotor shows the Cotes de Geneve and comes engraved with the Raymond Weil logo. The calibre works on a 4Hz frequency and has a 39-hour power reserve.

Raymond Weil Freelancer green edition watch

The Freelancer watch, which employs the RW1212 movement, comes in a 42mm wide stainless steel case. The first versions featured either a silver or black dial, but the newest version has a green dial. The dial’s centre is done in a guilloche style to add a feeling of texture to the watch. The watch comes on either a bracelet or a strap and has a fluted screwed-down crown. The watch has a water resistance of 100 metres. The hands and indices are treated in SuperLumiNova.
