Todd Snyder’s $180 Timex Q is an Affordable Classic

Timex has found a lot of success with the reissue of the Timex Q quartz watch. The watch was originally launched in 1979 and then relaunched in 2019 with the now-iconic Pepsi bezel. The offering was so popular that Timex released more colour options in April of the same year. Now New York-based Designer Todd Snyder is jumping on the bandwagon, applying his own vision to the popular watch.

“When I saw it in the Timex archives in Milan, it captured a nostalgic moment in time while also feeling so modern and relevant for right now—a true classic,” says Snyder of the Timex Q. For this new version, Snyder kept the quartz movement with the day-date complication at 3 o’clock. He also maintained much of the watch’s original looks.

Where’s Snyder’s take comes in is first with the more modern 38mm stainless steel case. The original round and painted indices have been replaced with metallic indices done in a rectangular shape. The bezel is a re-designed silver dive bezel, and the integrated bracelet sports the same rectangular look of the indices for a segmented design. Red accents stand out against the black dial. The hands are luminescent and the battery hatch is functional. The top is covered in an acrylic crystal and the watch is water-resistant up to 50 metres.

Timex has priced this latest version of the Q at USD$179. Don’t be surprised if this version is just as popular as previous iterations, which will no doubt see it going fast. The watch’s accuracy and dependability combined with the classic and classy looks designed by Snyder will make this your go-to watch for every occasion from work to dinner out. And at that price, you’ll look like a million bucks without having to spend that amount to do so.
