Bondi Active Launches Retro ‘Summer Sports Club’ Collection

Been sweating it out at your local run club? Looking to make an impression this beach season? Local sports apparel company Bondi Active has just dropped a new ‘Summer Sports Club’ collection inspired by ’80s and ’90s retro clothing. Highlighted by bold pops of colour and oversized graphics, the new range harks back to the California and Miami coastlines, right down to the Patrick Swayze-esque colourways.

“We wanted to bring something super fun and different for our SS24 range,” managing director of Bondi Active, Briony Oayda said. “The Summer Sports Club collection gives a nod to 80s and 90s beach nostalgia, think Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with the bold colours and beachy fitness club graphics. We also incorporated washed oversized tees and tanks using puff print and statement graphics that align to the look and feel of the retro California and Miami beach aesthetic.”

In the men’s collection, you’ll find nods to Sydney’s burgeoning run club trend alongside vibrant Sports Club Swim shorts and bold and brilliant tank tops. Starting at $40, Summer Sports Club range will be available in-store at the Bondi Active flagship store and online from Monday, 9 September 2024.

Disco-Inspired New York Cocktail Bar and Spanish-Japanese Snack Bar Launches in Sydney

Sydney has a new nightlife hotspot. Across two levels at 11 Young Street in the Quay Quarter Laneways, guests can indulge in an international sojourn, with the launch of New York-style cocktail bar Disco Pantera and Spanish/Japanese-inspired snack bar Tigra.

The latter is housed on the ground floor of the venue and plays host to a Barcelona street-inspired design, complete with decor that pays homage to the iconic Spanish artist Joan Miró, while also acknowledging the mesmerising bars that line the narrow, winding alleys of Golden Gai in Shinjuku. It’s a weird mix, no doubt, but somehow the fusion of styles and flavours works effortlessly to create a homely, if not entirely unfamiliar, feel. At Tigra, you’ll find dishes like Koshihakari ‘cat’ rice, Yarra Valley salmon roe & white soy yolk; Anchovy soldier, fennel and chives; and blood sausage with gremolata and red chilli and whipped scallop with bottarga and crudites.

Upstairs, Disco Pantera offers culture vultures a taste of New York. Whether you are after a nightcap or simply want to enjoy the revolving DJ line-up, the new venue has you covered. Expect cocktails like the ‘Chimichurri Margarita’, the ‘Alpine Sazerac’ and the luxe ‘Cleopatra Martini’ a striking serve that plays homage to ancient high society and features goat’s milk-washed gin and a sparkle of blue spirulina oil. The standout ‘Pantera Creaming Soda’ offers a playful twist on the classic milk punch, infused with a hint of essential oil reminiscent of disco-era colognes.

Disco Pantera and Tigra are set to open in September 2024, so keep an eye out for the latest news on this double-decker party palace.
