One of the major difficulties with the COVID-19 pandemic is the challenges with testing. Test kits have been in short supply, and being tested has been strictly regulated. Lab Corp is offering a COVID-19 Home Test Kit that you can use to see if you are infected with the virus.
The process is pretty simple. Just fill out a short eligibility survey. The survey is evaluated and if it is appropriate for you to be tested, the kit will be sent to you. If you are experiencing any of the following primary symptoms, you might be eligible for the test: a fever, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Secondary symptoms might also be an indication, such as tiredness, body or muscle aches, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose. Once you are deemed eligible for the testing, Lab Corp will work with you to file with your insurance or to use federal funds to cover the cost of the test.
When you receive the sample collection kit, you’ll collect the sample. The kit comes with full instructions on how to collect the sample, but it involves inserting a sterile Q-tip into your nasal cavity to swab for the sample. After you have the sample, you’ll send it back to Lab Corp for testing. After a few days, you’ll be able to access your results online.
The kit only tests to see if you are currently infected with the virus. It doesn’t check for antibodies or for immunity. If you’re feeling any of the symptoms, or are concerned that you might have been infected, you may want to check into getting this test and avoid all the red tape surrounding getting the test through official means. You should still stay in contact with a licensed physician, though, especially if the test shows a positive result.
