Dior’s $15,000 Surfboard Better Be Ding-Proof

Dior has unveiled its latest product, and OG surfers are rolling in their hammocks. The French fashion house has dipped its toes into the world of board shaping, designing a blue single-fin that will set customers back a cool USD$10,000 (AUD$15,000). Priced higher than your average beach bum’s car, we are still trying to figure out who would buy this thing. That said, it will probably end up as an art piece in some rich kook’s Byron Bay house (looking at you Chris Hemsworth) never to see the ocean’s waves.

While more likely to end up as a conversation-starting interior piece, best believe you can take this baby on the water (just try to avoid any dings). The luxury brand enlisted the help of professional board-makers in its design, which has been made in French Basque Country and hand-finished with the house’s classic Toile de Jouy print. As part of their Dioreviera 2022 capsule, the product was designed as a tribute to Christian Dior himself and serves as creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s homage to ‘freedom and adventure’.

The Dior Maison surfboard comprises all the materials found in the modern wave rider, including polyester, polyurethane foam, fibreglass, polyethylene and three-ply lime wood. After it was moulded, shaped and sanded to perfection, it received an application of the house’s trademark toile and was then polished smooth. The striking motif features on one side of the board and the classic Christian Dior logo on the other. Along with the board comes a travel bag, with two different strap options to make transporting the item to and from the beach (errm…display wall) effortless.

As part of the Diorriviera capsule, the surfboard joins a host of summer-ready offerings like Toile de Jouy-topped rackets and a ball, a sun lounger, candles, and water bottles. You can purchase the Dior Maison surfboard now for USD$10,000 (AUD$15,000).
