In a unique marrying of art and optics, the special edition model has been created in collaboration with the Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, who we can thank for their funky design. They were created as a homage to Olafur Eliasson’s installation ‘Life’ which was shown at the Fondation Beyeler (Switzerland) in 2021.
Typical of the artistic expression Olafur is known for, the binoculars feature a striking neon green leather trim and colour-matched engraving. In addition to the neon green leather trim, a further eye-catching feature of the binoculars of the special edition is their engravings filled out in green. Each example also features the special engraving ‘LIFE’ and a unique serial number. The packaging is also green and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a folding card with a personally signed quote from Olafur Eliasson himself – talk about special treatment.
From a more technical standpoint, the binoculars are the same as the ones in the serial production model. They reflect a timeless 1960s style that’s withstood generations. Seen again here, the style is categorised by slim, elegant features with a simple finish. Like the colours, you won’t have to worry about missing a thing with these binoculars at the ready – their precise, high-performance premium optics offer an exceptional field of view as well as an initiative handling concept. As tasty as they sound, a pair of these limited edition binoculars will set you back an eye-watering $2,299 USD (binocular experts tell us that’s pretty reasonable), however, with only 250 available worldwide the sheer lack of production units will make this model highly desirable to collectors.
