Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider is an F1 Car For The Road

It seems as though Aston Martin is dropping an exciting new model every other week. And we don’t blame them when they look as good as the Valhalla, Valkyrie AMR Pro and Victor. The latest in the line of F1-inspired Valkyrie models is our money no object pick of the bunch. The Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider combines the thrill of roof-off driving with cutting edge aerodynamics, a reconfigured carbon structure and over 1000BHP from its hybrid V12 and you’ll quickly understand why.

Unveiled at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2021, this hybrid stunner is the next car to carry the torch for Aston Martins Valkyrie lineup – its most extreme Formula 1 inspired range. A hypercar in any sense of the imagination the Valkyrie Spire sports the same unique 1140HP hybrid V12 powertrain from the ‘normal’ Valkyrie road car. However, sees a number of notable structural changes to maintain the precision needed when removing the roof on such an active chassis.

Most notable is the ultra-lightweight construction and high downforce aerodynamics that is showcased in the upper body surfaces. The teardrop-shaped cockpit and lower tub giveaway to the huge full length Venturi tunnels that run either side of the cockpit floor. These tunnels provide an extreme amount of downforce, feeding air beneath the car to the rear diffuser, the key to generating Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider’s extraordinary levels of downforce (1400kg at 240km/h in track mode). In laymen – about the same amount of downforce as an early 2000’s Formula 1 car.

Positioned to set lap times unheard of for a road car, the Valkyrie Spider remains a quintessential package for the uber-rich racer. Packed with lightweight solutions, and capable of achieving a vMAX of 330km/h+ with the roof removed (350km/h+ with a roof on), it’s the fastest and most extreme open-top, road-legal Aston Martin ever built.

Taking further inspiration from the F1 cars it is developed around, the cockpit and driving position will have you feeling like Lance Stroll in a heartbeat. With a low hip-to-heel height and near-central seat positioning, along with a 6-point safety harness to keep you safe in the car at 330km/h. The bespoke removable roof is made of carbon fibre and lathes into the rear tub and windscreen surround. Our favourite change is with the dihedral doors that now tilt forwards to allow easy removal of the roof.

“The Aston Martin Valkyrie is the product of incredible innovation and technology, but above all, it has always been about emotion. With the Valkyrie Spider, we are taking that passion and emotion to the next level. The driving experience promises to be truly sensational. The sound of that 6.5-litre V12 engine revving to over 11,000rpm with the roof removed is something I cannot wait to hear,” said Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Tobias Moers.

So you want to buy one? Well, that’s too bad because following unprecedented demand, the 85 examples of the Valkyrie Spider are oversubscribed – Sold out – and allocations will begin shortly, available in both left and right-hand drive derivatives, with first deliveries scheduled for H2 2022. As it seems is the case with halo cars like this, they’re gone to collectors never to be driven as the electrified future looms and 11,000rpm V12s disappear.
