When a standard EQS SUV doesn’t cut the mustard, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV (from AUD$328,607 before on-road costs) is the only logical choice. It brings increased luxury for rear passengers, a unique Maybach drive mode, lighting signatures, and plenty of wood and chrome emblems around the vehicle. However, it’s what’s under the skin that matters too, because the brand has introduced several additional measures to create superb noise and vibration suppression with rear passengers in mind.
There’s also a special ‘Night Series Edition’ which welcomes in the new model with dark chrome elements, jewel-like surfaces and finishes, and an interior that elevates the model again. Let’s take a closer look!

Let’s start in the back seat because that’s where most Mercedes‑Maybach EQS 680 SUV owners will spend their time. Standard-fit executive rear seats are finished in Nappa leather and have ventilation, massage function, neck and shoulder heating, and a calf massage. These features work in harmony with the standard Chauffeur Package, which moves the passenger seat forward when the left rear passenger chooses the reclining position.
Tech-wise, there are a pair of 11.6-inch displays on the backrests of the front seats, which come equipped with the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System. There are also noise-cancelling headphones for when you don’t want to use the 15-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system featuring Dolby Atmos. We had a chance to try this system with Apple’s Spatial Audio, and it was exceptional.
You can take things to the next level with the optional First Class Rear Suite, which adds rear armchairs separated by a heated rear-seat centre console. This is how you get those necessary champagne flutes found in the refrigerated compartment along with temperature-controlled cupholders.
Of course, the EQS 680 SUV also has blinds, a tablet to control features from inside and outside the car, and the capability to control navigation and set destinations from the rear seats. Finally, there’s all the Active Ambient Lighting we’ve come to expect from Merc’s with 253 individual LEDs and 64 individually selectable colours, including Maybach-specific colour schemes, Rose Gold White and Amethyst Glow.
The Mercedes‑Maybach EQS 680 SUV is powered by dual electric motors at the front and rear axle, producing 484 kW of power and 950 Nm of torque. That’s good for a 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. Interestingly, it comes with a special driving sound, “Aerial Grace”, which was created for the all-electric Mercedes-Maybach model.
Not only do those rear passengers gain tech and comfort from physical materials, but the car also has unique underpinnings to aid passenger comfort. That starts with a special MAYBACH drive program, which replaces COMFORT as the standard setting in DYNAMIC SELECT. It also includes a new Disconnect Unit (DCU) that can decouple the electric motor on the front axle and uses rubber mounts. You also get additional insulation materials, acoustically effective laminated glass panes, and external wind deflection measures.
The range is marked at 662 km (NEDC) or 635 km (WLTP) and brings a combined power consumption of 20.2 kWh per 100km from a 125 kWh battery (107.8 kWh usable). Charging takes 31 minutes (10 to 80 per cent) at a maximum rate of 200kW. Meanwhile, onboard AC charging is capped at a maximum of 22kW.
The Mercedes‑Maybach EQS 680 SUV is priced at AUD$328,607 before on-road costs and will be sold alongside the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class saloon (from AUD$573,192) and the Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV (from AUD$363,880). It is available to order right now in Australia. Options include the First Class Rear Suite package (AUD$14,900) and your selection of one of the six two-tone paintwork finishes (AUD$34,800).
