  • Nothing’s sub-brand CMF is launching the Phone 2 Pro on 6 May
  • The phone starts at AUD$449 with 128GB storage, or AUD$509 with 256GB of storage
  • It’ll be available for pre-order on April 28 from Nothing’s exclusive retail partner, JB Hi-Fi

UK-based tech brand Nothing has been on a roll this year, with the launch of the Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro proving that the brand can deliver a solid, powerful phone at a mid-range price. However, its next product is taking its attack on the budget phone space to the next level.

Through its sub-brand CMF, Nothing is dropping the CMF Phone 2 Pro on 6 May 2025, alongside updated versions of its earbud selection: the Buds 2 (AUD$89), the Buds 2 Plus (AUD$109), and the Buds 2a (AUD$79).

The CMF Phone 2 Pro is an upgrade in every way to last year’s Phone 1 – it’s a bigger, lighter device, with an impressively improved four-camera system, a better screen, and comes in four colour ways: white, black, orange, and light green.

While CMF’s phone series lacks Nothing’s ‘glyph’ interface, it instead brings improved repairability and modularity. CMF Phone 1 delivered something called the ‘accessory point’ – a point on the phone where accessories such as a card holder, lanyard or kickstand could be attached to the device, expanding the possible use cases you can have for your phone.

The CMF Phone 2 keeps the accessory point, but adds a few new possibilities, adding interchangeable fisheye and macro lenses for the phones’ camera system, as well as a wallet/stand combo, and a universal cover. Plus, with Nothing’s impressive maker community, more accessories could be made up and created as more users get access to the phone.

What About CMF’s New Audio Devices?

Alongside the Phone 2 Pro, CMF is also updating its suite of audio devices in an attempt to deliver something for “every need and music profile”. Specifically. CMF is launching three options: the entry-level Buds 2a, the flexible Buds 2, and the more enthusiast-level Buds 2 Plus.

Here are the main differences between the three models:

  • The Buds 2a (AUD$79) are a light-weight, entry-level option that focuses mainly on delivering the essentials, such as:
    • 42 dB ANC, a 12.4mm bio-fibre driver, deep bass, and 8 hours of listening on a single charge. The included charging case takes that figure to 35.5 hours of battery, and a 10-minute charge will deliver another 5.5 hours of playback.
    • Available in Dark Grey, Light Grey, and Orange.
  • The Buds 2 (AUD$89) are an upgrade to the brand’s existing Buds, and deliver better ANC and sound dynamics than the 2a, with features such as:
    • 48 dB ANC (with a 5200 Hz ultra-wide frequency range), 11mm PMI driver with Dirac Opteo tuning, and Ultra Bass technology. The Buds 2 itself holds 13.5 hours of playback, while the case takes that up to 55 hours. A 10-minute charge adds another 7.5 hours of listening.
    • Available in Dark Grey, Light Green, and Orange.
  • The Buds 2 Plus (AUD$109) is the brand’s premier audio device, delivering upgrades to essentially every part of the package:
    • 50 dB Hybrid ANC (with a 5400 Hz ultra-wide frequency range), 12mm LCP driver, and 14 hours of battery life. The added case takes total battery life to 61.5 hours, and a 10-minute top up adds another 8.5 hours of charge.
    • Available in Blue and Light Grey.

Each of these models will also pair with the Nothing X app (which comes pre-installed on any CMF or Nothing phone, and which can be downloaded from the Google Play and Apple App Stores), to deliver a few software enhancements, such as a low-lag mode to be used while gaming, or the ability to activate ChatGPT from your phone for “smarter” voice interactions.

Where Can I Pre-Order the CMF Phone 2 Pro?

With the Phone 2 Pro launching on 6 May, you are able to pre-order the device directly from the CMF website now, and soon at JB Hi-Fi.
