‘Ticks All Boxes’: Sony Unleashes New HT-S2000 Soundbar

Sony’s new HT-S2000 is a 3.1-channel soundbar that is not only affordable but easy to set up and use thanks to Sony’s new app, “Home Entertainment Connect.” It’s compact – measuring just 31.5 inches long by 2.5 inches high and 5 inches deep – and has a price to match from $699 AUD.

The HT-S2000 soundbar offers left, right, and centre speakers as well as dual built-in subwoofers. With a five-channel amplifier capable of delivering 250 total watts, the soundbar supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. It also uses Sony’s Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force PRO Front Surround virtual processing to create immersive audio. These tools allow the speaker to individual separate components of 5.1 and sterile sound to then transform the sound into 3D surround sound.

As Sony explains it, the algorithm “extracts individual sound objects depending on their localization and reallocates them, resulting in three-dimensional surround sound.” If you prefer an actual surround sound system, the HT-S2000 soundbar is compatible with Sony’s optional wireless rear speakers (SA-R3S) as well as their wireless subwoofer (SA-SW5 or SA-SW3).

In keeping with connectivity, if you have a Sony Bravia XR TV, the soundbar settings will appear in the TV’s Quick Settings menu, so you can control it with the TV remote. Other methods of connecting include Bluetooth as well as a single HDMI eARC. There is a USB port for storage devices.

Thanks to the Home Entertainment Connect app, getting the soundbar set up is simple. This new app guides you through the process of initial setup and also allows you to control volume, select your desired sound mode, and update your speaker with new software updates when they come available. The app will also provide suggestions of features you might like as well as providing troubleshooting tips. Plus, with the app, you can use your phone as the remote for the soundbar.

Sony’s HT-S2000 soundbar is set for availability from April onwards. When it does come to your door, you’ll notice that Sony used “specially developed recycled plastic” for the parts of the soundbar as well as packaging that is approximately 95 per cent recycled paper and paper-based materials.
