With SIHH 2018 all but an afterthought, and with Baselworld 2018 more than a month away, we find ourselves in the horological equivalent of a twilight zone. But, not to worry, for we at Man of Many are always ready to go with our regular series focusing on everything related to watches, The Wind Up. Omega Speedmaster Racing
As far as horological icons go, the Speedmaster is up there with the likes of the Submariner, the Daytona, the Portugieser and the Royal Oak. Instantaneously recognisable, but still subtle enough to go unnoticed. The Speedmaster Racing is, however, the Speedy’s beefed up, older brother. You know the type? Fast cars, fast women and a penchant for the unnerving. But in a good way. For lovers of the traditionalist aesthetic that is the Speedmaster, but of the same cohort those looking for a bit more grunt, then the Speedmaster Racing should be right up your alley. Available in a variety of colour schemes and all with that infamous tri-register chronograph dial, the Speedmaster Racing is indeed a fan favourite, especially with the guys at Man of Many. Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Unico Magic Gold
Fresh off of SIHH 2018 is one of Hublot’s most emblematic partnerships: The Big Bang and Ferrari. And to celebrate this partnership, we have the Big Bang Ferrari Unico Magic Gold. This 45mm beauty is made up of 18k “magic” gold, with a matching polished 18k “magic” gold bezel. The openworked treatment of the dial is complimented really well with the sub-dial register and open date window at 3 o’clock, as well as the iconic Ferrari symbol at 6 o’clock. I’d be remiss to say that the Big Bang Ferrari Unico Magic Gold may seem like more of a looker than a goer, but rest assured your piece is going to be ticking along nicely long after you’ve put her down, thanks to Hublot’s HUB1241 automatic chronograph mechanism. For all you Ferrari lovers out there wanting to dip your wrist in a big of fan-fun, the Big Bang Ferrari Unico Magic Gold is definitely the piece for you.

Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Moon in Black Enamel
As far as non-discrete brands go, Jaquet Droz is one of my all-time favourites. They make some seriously beautiful timepieces that absolutely ooze quality. The Grande Seconde Moon in Black Enamel is one of the pieces that will be revealed at this year’s Baselworld, and if its conception is anything to go by, well then, I’m super excited to see what else Jaquet Droz will bring to the table. The Grande Seconde Moon in Black Enamel is a masterclass in ultra-fine finishing, delicacy and attention to detail. In a very smooth, very fluid look you’ll quickly be able to tell the time, the date as well as the moonphase. And all from a dial that is both simple yet fundamentally gorgeous. The 18k rose gold case and deep black enamel dial serve as the perfect combination, and the automatic Calibre 266QL03 is like the crowning jewel. I don’t tend to throw the p-word around often (perfect…), but in the case of the Grande Seconde Moon in Black Enamel, I think I might have to. Absolutely perfect.

URWERK UR-210 Royal Hawk
Featuring a case made of platinum and titanium, coated in black DLC, the UR-210 Royal Hawk is attention grabbing (to say the least). It’s difficult to fathom the mechanics of the UR-210 Royal Hawk. Seriously. A Swiss lever escapement. A monometallic balance wheel. A flat balance spring. Automatic winding dampened by turbines. A three-dimensional minute’s hand made of aluminum with a brass counterweight. A central cylindrical spring made of steel. Hours satellites in aluminum. And a central carrousel in grade 5 titanium. Oh, sanded, circular graining, satin finishing, diamond polishing and chamfering. I don’t think I’ve missed anything. Anyway, my point is this. If you’re looking to make the complicated even more complicated for the sake of being complicated to show your friends just how complicated complicated can get, then get the UR-210 Royal Hawk.
