The MG Cyberster is the first all-electric roadster to hit the road since the Tesla Roadster. It’s now available to order, priced from AUD$99,900 plus on-road costs in a new single-motor RWD variant.

Looking to revitalise the model line-up and taken on more affordable petrol-powered sports cars like the Mazda MX-5 (AUD$43,020 plus on-roads) and Ford Mustang GT Convertible (AUD$87,667 plus on-roads), MG has now released a new single-motor rear-wheel drive variant of the Cyberster, priced from AUD$99,900 plus on-road costs and available in dealerships in your choice of six colours: Mayfair Blue (NEW), English White Standard, Sterling Silver Metallic, Camden Grey Metallic, Diamond Red Metallic, and Royal Yellow Premium.

“The Cyberster is a beautiful testament to the history and the future of MG,” said MG Motor Australia Chief Executive Officer, Peter Ciao. “The design is magnificent and the thrill of driving the Cyberster with the top down is amazing. The design team created a work of art that captures the eye of everyone.”

“We are excited to launch an additional variant in Australia. MG fans have asked for the rear-wheel-drive model, and we’re excited to now be able to deliver this model. Driving the Cyberster brings a smile to your face, we hope the additional model will help more Australians share this feeling. The rear-wheel-drive performance and handling will thrill motorists, with amazing power delivered. You’ll love the feeling of driving the Cyberster.”

Like all MGs sold in Australia, the Cyberster is covered by a 10-year, 250,000km warranty and a network of nearly 100 dealerships nationwide.

While expensive, the Cyberster is cheaper than other premium roadsters like the BMW Z4 M40i (AUD$139,800 plus on-roads) and Chevrolet Corvette 3LT Convertible (AUD$205,000 plus on-roads). Still, that low price hasn’t helped sales, and despite taking around 50 deposits before the first shipment arrived, the MG Cyberster has recorded just 19 sales through March 2025.

The market for all-electric premium roadsters is weak, and MG Cybersters are currently sitting in dealerships for around $108,000 drive-away.

What Powers the MG Cyberster?

Originally, MG Motor Australia only brought the dual-motor MG Cyberster AWD variant to Australia with 375kW of power and 725Nm of torque (0–100km/h: 3.2 seconds). However, they’ve recently released the more affordable single-motor MG Cyberster RWD variant that produces 250kW of power and 475Nm of torque (0–100km/h: 5.2 seconds).

The performance for your money proposition here is rather exceptional, as the MG Cyberster AWD offers acceleration that matches cars like the $275,000 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, which we have personally tested at 3.2 seconds.

We believe the AWD model is a compelling choice for buyers who might be looking for an alternative to performance electric sedans like the BMW i4 M50, Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, and Tesla Model 3 Performance. Meanwhile, the single-motor variant is a more attainable choice for those who want to step up from cars like the Ford Mustang GT Convertible (AUD$87,667 plus on-roads). It’s also significantly cheaper than the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, which costs more than AUD$500,000 plus on-roads.

Range and charging-wise, both MG Cybersters use a 77 kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 500km NEDC (443km WLTP) in AWD form and 552km (NEDC) in RWD form.

This battery can be charged from 10-80 per cent in 40 minutes at up to 144kW DC.

Just How Big is the MG Cyberster?

Size-wise, the MG Cyberster measures 4,535mm long and 1,913mm wide, which makes it roughly the same size as a BMW 2-series Coupe.

We’ve listed the dimensions of other popular roadsters and convertibles below:

  • 1974 MG B Roadster: 3,886 mm, 1,524 mm
  • 2024 Mazda MX-5: 3,915 mm, 1,735mm
  • 2024 BMW Z4: 4,324 mm, 1,864 mm
  • 2024 MG Cyberster: 4,535mm and 1,913mm
  • 2024 Mustang Convertible: 4,811 mm, 1,916 mm

It’s a surprisingly tight package, and while it’s bigger than small roadsters like the Mazda MX-5, it’s not a behemoth like the new Ford Mustang Convertible.
