Head to Bunnings to Support Cyclone Recovery with a Sausage Sizzle

As we pick up the pieces following the disastrous Cyclone Alfred, Bunnings has gone ahead and given us even more reason to head to the hardware store and nab a sausage. On Friday, 21 March, all proceeds from the national chain’s sausage sizzle will be donated to GIVIT – a not-for-profit that helps those that have suffered from weather-focused events get back on their feet.

“Our team always embrace the opportunity to help out where they can and getting on the BBQ tongs to support communities impacted by recent weather events is no different,” Bunnings Director of Stores, Rod Caust, said.

“Some of our teammates live in the impacted areas and have been on the ground providing hands-on help to their communities with recovery efforts. Our national fundraising BBQ in partnership with GIVIT is another way we can get behind them and show our support.”

According to Bunnings, more than 290 stores will take part in the event, so get down there and do your part!

Wild Turkey Celebrates Master Distiller’s 70-Year Journey with Anniversary Bourbon

Jimmy Russell, the master distiller behind Wild Turkey’s deliciousness, has been at it for 70 years, and the bourbon business is looking to share the spoils.

For a limited time, Wild Turkey is selling ‘Jimmy Russell’s 70th Anniversary 8-Year-Old Bourbon’: a celebration of all the man crowned the ‘Buddha of Bourbon’ has accomplished.

The drop features Jimmy’s signature 8-year-old, 101-proof bourbon, along with an additional blend of 8- to 9-year-old whiskeys that were hand-selected from a few of his favourite rick-houses.

“I’ve never worked a day in my life” said Russell. “The day I do, I’ll retire. Until then, I’ll keep making the bourbon I love.”

Wild Turkey Jimmy Russell’s 70th Anniversary 8-Year-Old Bourbon is available now for AU$135 at Dan Murphys, BWS, First Choice & Selected independent retailers across Australia.

Melbourne Food and Wine Festival Kicks Off

If you’re partial to a bit of wine and nibbles, the next 10 days in Melbourne are going to be like heaven to you. The Annual Melbourne Food and Wine Festival kicks off on 21 March, running until 30 March, and brings a number of delicious sounding events all over the city and its surrounding regions.

For example, this weekend you could go to the Old Melbourne Gaol and enjoy “A Wild Colonial Feast: Ned Kelly’s Final Dinner”, which is made up of a four course dinner that takes you on a journey through Victoria’s colonial history. Alternatively, you could head to Cardwell Cellars and check out a pop-up Austro-Hungarian Wine Tavern pulled off by Hungarian musician and cook Zoltan Fesco.

There is also the Moon Dog Bus and Beer Crawl, which takes you on a tasting tour across the brewery group’s locations, including insights from the founders, and is filled with the chance to eat delicious food and partake in rare brews.

Honestly, there’s a lot of the festival and it all looks good. If you’re looking for something fun and interesting to do this weekend (or next weekend, for that matter), this is a great place to start.

You can Travel New Zealand in Minecraft Now

Yep, you’re read that right. New Zealand has become the first country in the world to be fully recreated in Minecraft – and you can explore the whole place for free (assuming you own the game, that is).

Working together with developer Mojang Studios, as well as Warner Bros. Pictures, ahead of the release of A Minecraft Movie, Tourism New Zealand has recreated the vast and varied landscape of Aotearoa New Zealand in the game’s signature style, and is inviting digital tourists to jump in and check out what the country has to offer.

“This is our chance to invite the world to play Aotearoa New Zealand and show just how much fun people can have here. We want to give people an immersive taste of what New Zealand has to offer,” Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive René de Monchy said.

A Minecraft Movie was primarily shot in New Zealand – a landscape so varied it now hides both Hobbit holes and Creepers. You can download the New Zealand map from the Minecraft Marketplace now.

Earth Hour 2025

Switch off this Saturday for Earth Hour

To combat the growing threat of climate change and over-pollution, all Australians are urged to switch off for Earth Hour each year – and guess what? It’s this weekend.

From 8.30pm to 9.30pm AEDT, Saturday 22 March, Aussies are asked to switch off their electronics in support of stronger action on climate change and biodiversity loss.

“Australia urgently needs to scale up solutions to address the escalating threats of biodiversity loss and climate change,” said a spokesperson for WWF.

“Australia is home to unique wildlife found nowhere else, but sadly we hold the record for the highest mammal extinction rate on the planet.

“If we want to secure a healthy future for people and nature, then we need to act with urgency to help protect and restore our planet for everything that calls it home, so save the date and switch off this Earth Hour.”

The movement was born in Sydney in 2007, but has now grown out to more than 190 countries.

Afterpay Day Goes All Weekend

Afterpay is pretty well known within the online payments space, but it also runs a massive sales event twice a year in which thousands of retailers drop prices for a few days to encourage shoppers to spend up – and wouldn’t you know it, it’s happening this weekend!

You’re able to snag some great deals, and while we already wrote a pretty detailed breakdown of some of the best deals you can get, it’s worth going to your favourite brands’ websites and checking – they might be doing their own, independent sales to compete. Either way, it’s a good weekend to spend some cash burning a hole in your pocket.
