Is True Protein good? In short, yes. We’ve been putting the Sydney brand’s supplements through our own training blocks, and between the all-natural formulas, the HASTA-certified range and flavours that genuinely don’t taste like punishment, it has earned a permanent spot in the Man of Many gym bag. Founded in Brookvale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in 2014, True Protein has grown into one of the country’s most trusted sports nutrition brands. Here are five reasons we think it’s the best-tasting protein in Australia, plus what our own team makes of it.

1. All-Natural Supplements
Every True Protein formula contains only what’s essential: no fillers, no hidden sugars, nothing artificial. That stance came straight from the top. “A lot of protein has an artificial aftertaste and contains fillers, sugars, syrups; a lot of ‘fake stuff’. At True, we wanted to create something truly authentic, tasty and 100% natural with a totally transparent ingredients list,” founder Ben Kierath has said of the brand he started with his brother James. If you’ve ever wondered whether protein shakes are actually healthy, a clean ingredients list is exactly where you should start.
2. Premium Ingredients, Blended in Sydney
True Protein doesn’t source supplements from anywhere that’s cheap and easy. Raw materials are sourced from the best suppliers around the globe, think New Zealand grass-fed whey and German Creapure creatine, then blended in the company’s own facility on Sydney’s Northern Beaches before heading out the door. Owning the manufacturing process is rare in this industry, and it’s a big part of why the brand sits at the pointy end of our list of the best Australian protein brands.

3. Science-Backed and HASTA-Certified Products
Products start as ideas, then get researched, tested and reformulated in conjunction with an advisory board of accredited sports dietitians and nutrition experts before they reach a shelf. A core range is also HASTA-certified, meaning it’s batch-tested for substances banned in sport, which is why you’ll find True Protein in the corner of elite athletes including Olympic 1500m medallist Jess Hull and UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena. If you want to understand the science behind one of its hero products, our explainer on what creatine actually does is a good place to start.

4. 100% Transparency Commitment
True Protein publishes its full ingredient panels because, well, the family-run brand is proud of them. Every label tells you exactly what’s in the bag and how much, so you can read a nutritional panel with confidence and work out precisely where it fits your macros. If you’re not sure what you actually need in a day, our guide to how much protein you need breaks down the numbers.
5. Something for Everyone
The range has grown well beyond whey. Alongside the flagship WPI 90, there’s a plant protein with probiotics, ready-to-drink protein shakes, protein bars, electrolytes, an endurance fuel and the new Magnesium+ recovery powder. Flavours run from French Vanilla to Salted Caramel, and a 10-flavour WPI 90 sample box lets you find your favourite before committing to a full pouch. Consistently described as the best-tasting protein on the market, it’s hard to believe you’re drinking something that’s good for you.

Our Experience with True Protein
This isn’t theoretical for us. Man of Many’s Alex Martinez runs WPI 90, Creatine Monohydrate and True Protein Bars through his own training, writing in our Staff Favourites column that “in a market flooded with noise, True Protein stands out by doing less, but doing it better. No unnecessary additives. No fillers. Just clean, simple, natural ingredient profiles.”
More recently, our Head of Branded Content Harry Parsons trialled the new Magnesium+ while preparing for the Sydney Hyrox, reporting “an immediate improvement in my muscle recovery and a significant decrease in cramping” after weeks of waking to calf cramps. Two staffers, two very different training goals, same verdict.

True Protein FAQ
Yes. True Protein products are formulated with an advisory board of accredited sports dietitians, made from all-natural ingredients with no fillers or artificial additives, and a core range is HASTA-certified for use in elite sport.
True Protein is a family-run Australian business founded in 2014 by brothers Ben and James Kierath. It remains 100 per cent Australian-owned, with headquarters and an in-house blending facility in Brookvale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Used alongside a balanced diet and regular training, protein powder is a convenient way to close a protein gap and support muscle growth and recovery. It supplements whole foods rather than replacing them.
Total daily protein intake matters more than precise timing. A shake within a couple of hours either side of training works well for most people, and research shows the post-workout window is far more forgiving than once thought.
