Tuck in the Padawans and lock up your Banthas. Stars Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has just launched for PC and consoles, meaning there are a few dozen hours of Jedi action coming your way. The game launched Friday and is unanimously hailed as the best Star Wars game in years. If you’re sitting on the fence with this one, the healthy Metacritic average of 84% at the time of writing might help persuade your decision.
Stars Wars Jedi: Fallen Order comes from developer Respawn, the studio behind the incredible Titanfall series and the recent battle royale hit Apex Legends. It’s the first single-player exclusive Star Wars title to come from publisher EA, following two moderately successful Star Wars Battlefronts and a cancelled single-player adventure from the writer of Uncharted.
Players take on the role of Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis who narrowly escaped the purge of Order 66 following the events of Revenge of the Sith. Fending for himself, Cal searches for meaning, takes on the burden of rebuilding the Jedi order, builds a new crew and tries to stay ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.
You may recognise Cal’s face and voice. He’s played by actor Cameron Monaghan who starred in Shameless and played the Joker in TV’s Gotham.
Stars Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an action-adventure game that takes cues from classics like Metroid Prime and Dark Souls. But don’t worry; it’s not quite as difficult as Dark Souls. Players will be honing their lightsaber combat forms to strike, block and dodge enemies. Alien creatures can be dismembered with the lightsbaer; sadly, human enemies cannot be dismembered.
Of course, there’s a series of force moves to learn and utilise, iconic characters to meet and varied locations to explore including ancient forests, windswept cliffs, and haunted jungles.
Stars Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Just weeks before The Rise of Skywalker lands in cinemas. For more on the big games of the month, check out the Top New Games Releasing in November 2019.
