Sony PS5 Revealed – Hardware, Games and Accessories Unveiled
It has taken several months and more than a few setbacks, but Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has finally unveiled the flagship PlayStation 5 console. Well, two consoles actually.
At the company’s live-streamed event, which was originally slated for last week, Sony dropped some major announcements. The brand gave fans a glimpse at the PS5 games currently under development, with a few surprises here and there. However, the big reveal from Sony’s live-streamed showcase was the much-awaited final design of the PS5 console itself.

PS5 Hardware
The first official images of the sleek white system confirm suspicions that Sony would transfer to a more palatable tone, following the release of the DualSense controller earlier this year. What’s more, Sony announced that two variations of the PS5 would be on offer; a PlayStation 5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition without a disc drive.
“The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours,” Sid Shuman from SIE content communications said. “While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console that’s bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.”
Sony PS5 Games Revealed
In addition to the PS5 design reveal, Sony also served up a bevy of first-look game announcements, kicking off with Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. Eight further titles from SIE and second-party partners were also unveiled in the PS5 showcase, including a long-awaited addition to the Ratchet & Clank franchise, a new Gran Turismo instalment and the latest release for Guerilla Games, Horizon Forbidden West. The showcase also featured reveals from third-party publishers, which gave fans even more to cheer about.

“With PlayStation 5, we are making a significant leap to deliver a truly new generation of transformative play experiences that will redefine expectations for what games can be,” said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of SIE. “Worlds will be richer and more beautiful, they’ll captivate your senses in ways you didn’t think possible, and you’ll be able to experience them much more seamlessly, with lightning fast loading. Today’s showcase is just a glimpse of what’s to come in the next generation, and we want to thank our community for taking this journey to PS5’s launch with us.”
Grand Theft Auto Offer
In the showcase reveal, Ryan also took the time to confirm that Grand Theft Auto would be coming to PS5, thanks to the close partnership between SIE and Rockstar Games. As part of the collaboration, enhanced and expanded versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online will launch on the platform in the second half of 2021. Further, a new standalone version of Grand Theft Auto Online will also be made available, with access to all PS5 owners for free within the first three months of the title launching. All GTAV PS4 owners will also score GTA$1,000,000 every month until the PS5 version of the game launches in 2021.

PS5 Accessories
While the PS5 design reveal and new game announcements were clearly the headline attractions, Ryan and the SIE team weren’t done there. The company also unveiled a slate of new PS5 accessories set to elevate the overall gaming experience. Among them, a PULSE 3D wireless headset that offers 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling microphones and an HD Camera that features dual 1080p lenses for gamers to broadcast themselves along with their gameplay. Further, Sony also dropped a new media remote with built-in microphone and a DualSense Charging Station for convenient charging of two DualSense Wireless Controllers.
PlayStation 5 Price Australia
While SIE was more than happy to unload a bunch of new information about the PS5, one thing the company refused to reveal was the Australian price. According to the company, “SIE will announce pricing and additional details for PlayStation 5 at a later date”. There are a lot of rumours circulating about the price, particularly following a leaked and since-deleted Amazon UK listing that set the PS5 price at £599. Whether that is anything to go by or not, remains to be seen.
For now, just sit back and enjoy the first official images of the next-gen console.

According to the latest announcement from Sony Interactive Entertainment, there will be two different versions of the PlayStation 5 console, one that accepts discs and another that is digital-only.
Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will be released “in time for Holiday 2020” in the US, likely earmarking a release between October and December.
Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will be backwards compatible with your PS4 games, however, it bears reminding that there is a digital-only version of the next-gen console being released.
