Idris Elba Launches His Own Luxurious Menswear Line
Look out Kanye, there’s a new polymath in town. Idris Elba, the British actor who first rose to fame on HBO’s The Wire and later gained critical acclaim for his role as DCI John Luther in the BBC series Luther, is a true Renaissance man. Elba has proven his talents as an actor, director, philanthropist, activist, DJ and now – fashion designer. At the recent premiere of Netflix’s Luther: The Fallen Sun, Elba stepped out in a mauve satin buttonless suit that he personally designed under his new clothing line, Eve of Winston.

Elba’s new clothing line is named after his parents, Eve and Winston, and apparently is a tribute to their style and influence on his life. He admitted to Today’s Savannah Guthrie that he “just sketched” the designs and did not personally sew them. Despite his modesty, Elba’s designs received high praise and admiration from fans and fashion critics alike.
Guthrie enumerated Elba’s numerous achievements and then inquired if the multi-talented individual is now also a fashion designer.
“That’s a stretch,” Elba humbly states before admitting that he “did design something I wore on a carpet.”
Pulling up a picture of Elba at the Luther premiere, Guthrie flaunted the line’s initial design, solidifying that the refined pleated-front suit was fashioned by Elba.
“My mom’s name is Eve, my dad’s name is Winston, and this collection is called Eve of Winston,” Elba explained. “I’m working at it.”
“I didn’t sew those, I promise you—I just sketched them,” he clarified. “I said, ‘I really want to look like this.’”

Elba’s first public design for Eve of Winston was a sleek pleated-front suit that he wore to the Luther film premiere. The suit was a perfect representation of Elba’s personal style we’ve come to know over the years – classic, clean, and elegant. It was made from high-quality satin fabric, which gave it a luxurious and sophisticated look. The buttonless design added a modern twist to the traditional suit.
The fashion industry is already taking notice of Elba’s new venture. His stylist, Cheryl Konteh, has been tagging Eve of Winston on her Instagram page, and although the brand does not yet have an official Instagram account, it already has a handful of followers eagerly waiting for more designs.
Elba’s foray into fashion is just the latest addition to his already impressive resume. He has proven his talent as an actor with award-winning performances in both film and television. He has also directed several projects, including the feature film Yardie. In addition to his work in entertainment, Elba is a dedicated philanthropist and activist, supporting causes such as anti-racism, gender equality, and education. He has also been named as one of Time magazine’s 100 most impactful l people in the world.
