Over the past few years, both Gucci and Versace have had their respective cultural moments on-screen. Now it’s Dior’s turn, with Apple TV+ sharing the first images of The New Look – a highly anticipated series from creator Todd A. Kessler set to debut globally on Wednesday, 14 February 2024.
The 10-episode historical drama series will see the Australian Emmy Award winner transform into Christian Dior as he rises to prominence amidst the horrors of World War II. Set against the Nazi occupation of Paris, “The New Look focuses on the pivotal moment in the twentieth century when the French city led the world back to life through its fashion icon Christian Dior,” reads the synopsis.
The interwoven saga will also follow the stories of Dior’s contemporaries and rivals from Coco Chanel (Juliette Binoche), Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga and others, providing an insight into the atelier designs and clothing created by the iconic Frenchman.
Alongside Mendelsohn and Binoche, Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones takes on the role of Catherine Dior, while John Malkovich portrays Lucien Lelong. Emily Mortimer will portray Elsa Lombardi, and Claes Bang steps into the character of Spatz.
The New Look will drop its first three episodes on Wednesday February 14 on Apple TV+, with new episodes released Wednesdays through April 3. Check out more images of the upcoming series below.
