Get Excited, ‘Dune: Part Two’ Has Officially Wrapped Filming

Thanks to Timothée Chalamet’s regular social updates, we now have an official confirmation that the filming for Dune: Part Two is over and done with. Chalamet, who will be reprising his role as Paul Atreides in part two of the science fiction epic, shared the news with a photo him and his dad, Marc Chalamet, captioned “DUNE 2 WRAPPED (with desert dad !!),” on his Instagram account.

Dune: Part Two will act as the direct sequel to the 2021 film and is the second of a two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fantasy novel Dune. The film will cover the events of the second half of the book and sees Denis Villeneuve returning to direct the project. The Canadian filmmaker says that the sequel is going to be a “cinematic party,” where there will be less talking and more action and drama. Sounds like we are in for a treat.

Besides Timothée, cast members from the first film, like Zendaya, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Javier Bardem Charlotte Rampling and Stephen McKinley Henderson will all be reprising their respective roles in the upcoming sequel. There are some new additions to the cast as well in the form of Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Austin Butler as Feyd Rautha together with Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Souheila Yacoub as Fremen warrior Shishakli and No Time to Die Bond girl Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot.

The filming/production for Dune: Part Two kicked off earlier in July of this year and was shot in multiple locations such as Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan and Italy. The official synopsis for the movie, as provided by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, reads: “This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavours to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

The first part ended with Paul and Jessica meeting and joining Chani and the Fremen to seek justice against the Harkonnens and the schemers responsible for the death of his family. The sequel will also delve into Zendaya’s character Chani, who appears in Paul’s visions in the first movie. No official trailers have been revealed for the sequel yet, despite it being deep into production and filming. Dune: Part Two hits theatres on November 3, 2023, and we can’t wait to witness all the chaos and drama that entails.
