Keanu Reeves’ John Wick will return for some more retribution and mayhem, as Lionsgate has confirmed that John Wick 5 is officially in the making. Following the phenomenal critical and commercial success of John Wick: Chapter 4, helmed by director Chad Stahelski, it was almost certain that more stories would emerge within the thrilling assassin franchise. However, there were uncertainties surrounding the fate of Reeves’ titular character, as he was believed to have met his demise. But it seems there’s still plenty more to come for our favourite hitman vigilante.

During Lionsgate’s Q4 2023 earnings call, Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake revealed that a fifth John Wick film is indeed in early development and also announced plans to expand the John Wick IP into more spinoffs, television series, and video games. According to Drake, “We’re now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what the regular cadence of spinoffs, television really growing that universe so that there is a steady cadence of a franchise that there’s clear appetite by the audience.”
He added, “What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina (starring Ana de Armas) is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including John Wick 5 and including television series, The Continental, which will be airing soon. And so, we’re building out the world, and when that fifth movie comes, it will be organic – will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”
Director Chad Stahelski shared a similar enthusiasm, telling The Hollywood Reporter in April that he would eagerly continue more stories of John Wick with Reeves if the right circumstances arose. Now, with Drake casually mentioning the development of the fifth instalment, it appears that the stars have finally aligned.
