Killers of the Flower Moon draws inspiration from David Grann’s 2017 fact-based book of the same name. The film’s “set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.” Apple has joined hands with Paramount Pictures for the movie’s theatrical release and plans to debut the film on Apple TV+ after the exclusivity period ends.

According to Vulture, Leonardo DiCaprio is set to portray Ernest Burkhart, a white man married to an Osage tribe member, who, along with his uncle Bill Hale (played by Robert De Niro), is actively involved in the killings. Lily Gladstone joins the cast as Mollie Kyle, an Osage woman who inherits an oil fortune. The film also features Jesse Plemons as Tom White, a former Texas Ranger investigating the murders, along with Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, and Tantoo Cardinal in supporting roles.

Along with starring onscreen, DiCaprio serves as the executive producer alongside Rick Yorn, Adam Sommer, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer and Niels Juul. Producers on the project include Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Daniel Lupi. Per Variety, the movie is expected to “debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival,” so chances are we might get to hear more things about it soon.

As we’ve come to expect from the award-winning director, Killers of the Flower Moon will feature a heavy run time that tests the concentration of modern audiences. So stock up on popcorn for 3 hours and 26 minutes of pure drama when the film hits cinemas with a limited release on October 6, followed by a worldwide launch on October 20.
