Not One, but TWO ‘Peaky Blinders’ Spin-Offs are Storming onto Netflix

Netflix appears to be adopting the ‘spin it till it’s worn out’ philosophy, with not one, not two, not three, but four new spin-off series in the works. Per Bloomberg, the streamer is reportedly looking to expand its offering with a string of spin-off series, including a Wednesday spin-off, an Extraction spin-off, and, in an unexpected move, plans to franchise Peaky Blinders with two additional shows.

As per the report, Netflix is currently in the process of developing a spin-off for Wednesday, centering around Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester. While there’s no official confirmation, the report suggests that Netflix is “eager to establish a pipeline of Addams Family programs to build off the success of Wednesday.” No title or release date has yet been confirmed and the status of the project is also unclear. Beyond this, the streamer is also mulling over the possibility of expanding its Chris Hemsworth-led action thriller film ‘Extraction‘ franchise with a TV series.

However, one that stands out even more is Peaky Blinders, as Netflix surprisingly has plans to introduce two spin-offs. The first spin-off is slated to focus on Polly, the matriarch of the Shelby clan, while the second spin-off takes the story to mid-20th century Boston, decades after the events of the original series. These potential spin-offs are in addition to the ongoing development of the currently unnamed Peaky Blinders movie, with Steven Knight returning as the film’s director.

In a recent update to the Radio Times, Knight shared that the movie is in its final stages of being written. “I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment,” he mentioned. “I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, ‘That’s pretty good – but where did it come from?'” He further added, “The plan is to start shooting that in the middle of next year.”

Quite recently, Cillian Murphy also hinted at the possibility of returning for the upcoming movie as Thomas “Tommy” Shelby, expressing openness to the idea. Reflecting on the series, he mentioned, “I’m totally open to the idea, but I also do think it was a kind of perfect six seasons. It’s sometimes hard to move into the film format, and I do like the ambiguity of the ending, but I’m always open to a great script, who wouldn’t be?” Unsurprisingly enough, details about these upcoming spin-offs are currently limited, and the timeline for their release also remains up in the air.
