Levi’s and NIGO Celebrate 150 Years With Exclusive SS23 Capsule

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the iconic Levi’s 501 jeans, easily distinguished as one of the most recognisable and enduring icons of style around the world. From its creation in 1873, this staple piece of denim has evolved and continues to evolve to this day. To celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the 501s, Levi’s has created a limited edition two-piece collection with non-other than Japanese fashion designer and KENZO artistic director, NIGO.

Set for SS23 release, the pair’s latest collaboration sees the pioneer of Japanese streetwear reimagine some of his favourite archival Levi’s pieces. A well-known collector, NIGO has spent decades sourcing rare vintage Levi’s and has accumulated one of the most expansive personal collections in the world. Teased in Complex’s episode of Complex Closets, you know this collaboration is going to be a match made in denim heaven.

The limited edition two-piece collection features a pair of Hickory Stripe 501 jeans and a 557XX Hickory Stripe Trucker Jacket. Both of these are crafted in Japan utilising traditional manufacturing techniques.

The Hickory Stripe 501  jean is crafted from 13 oz, Shrink-to-Fit Hickory Stripe selvedge denim, which was developed purposefully for this collection. The jean has a vintage wash and includes classic details, such as Levi’s Red Tab, signature button shanks, and a Two-Horse Pull back patch and stitched arcuate on the back pockets. If you’re like us, you probably don’t need another pair of denim in your rotation, but these are a must-have in our books.

Also crafted with 13 oz Hickory Stripe selvedge denim, the 557XX Trucker Jacket comes pre-shrunk with a vintage wash to match the 501 jeans. The Trucker Jacket features the same classic details adding to the soon-to-be iconic piece. As part of the 150th-anniversary celebration, every piece sold from this collection comes with a special edition Levi’s x NIGO 150th anniversary tote bag.

The Levi’s x NIGO collection launches worldwide on April 6th 2023 and is available on levi.com.au and select retailers such as END.
