French luxury fashion house Givenchy is loved by many for its haute couture, ready-to-wear clothing, accessories, and even cosmetics, but its fragrance arm remains one of the brand’s strongest pillars. Off the back of remarkable drops like the Gentleman Réserve Privée, which featured a string of tantalising whisky notes, Givenchy has returned with another stellar release, dipping into the wide world of dark florals. Prepare your senses and pepper your angus for Givenchy Gentleman Society, the latest olfactory exploration.

The new fragrance arrives by way of perfumers Maïa Lernout and Karine Dubreuil, with the duo working collaboratively to produce an entirely unique take on the classic Givenchy scent, albeit with a few familiar additions. Like all of the maison’s existing perfumes, ‘Gentleman Society’ has an exclusive signature, that of a flower-wood duality.
This time around, Lernout and Dubreuil went down the floral woody aromatic path, opting to mix of a quartet of vetivers with different origins and extractions from Madagascar, Uruguay and Haiti. According to the official release, you can expect to find a “hint of clary sage” that is designed to add a herbaceous, aromatic element to the complex fragrance.
Additionally, Givenchy has specially called out the use of cedarwood from the Himalayas and sandalwood from Australia, delivering a distinct woody undertone. From there, the perfumers then mixed the concoction with juniper berries from Croatia and cardamom from Guatemala to form an “invigorating aromatic duo”.
Leaving no stone unturned, Givenchy’s re-animation also extends to the bottle design. Taking a stab at the iconic Gentleman design, the new Gentleman Society swaps the classic glass bottle for a deep black lacquer finish that is highlighted by an embossed metal plate that bears the Givenchy 4G logo. better yet, the bottle is also composed of 15 per cent recycled glass, which is a handy, if not completely necessary, little touch. Givenchy Gentleman Society Eau de Parfum launches on April 16 at both MYER and David Jones and will be available in 60 ml and 100 ml bottles.
To also celebrate the launch of its new men’s fragrance Gentleman Society, the House has created Givenchy Conversations, a new podcast helmed by French journalist Pierre M’Pelé. Here, the wordsmith encourages guests to discuss passions, expertise and their perspectives on masculinity. You can check out more about Givenchy Conversations on the brand’s official website.
