While hiking boots are traditionally reserved for long walks into the unknown, these technical silhouettes are making a name for themselves in urban environments. A trend that closely follows the never-ending movement that is ‘GORP,’ Carharrt WIP x Salomon is the next in a long line of Salomon Sportstyle collaborations – including the likes of And Wander and 11 By Boris Bidjan Saberi. Look for these to land on Australian shores, 24th February, with North America and Europe seeing them a little earlier on the 10th of February.
The silhouette might be the most important aspect in a footwear collaboration. Just because two big-name brands find themselves linking, it doesn’t always result in a sneaker of the year contender. While we would’ve liked to see a collaboration between the brands on something like an XT-6, XT-4 or ACS Pro Advanced model, the chosen CSWP Shelter silhouette is both fully waterproof and packed full of performance so we can’t complain. Carhartt WIP has added a workwear touch to the French footwear brands style and the boot now resembles something urban utilitarian in nature.
Lightly insulated as to be worn in environments where the weather can take its toll, the palette features tonal plays on Carhartt classic greens, greys and blacks with pared-back branding that lends focus to the shoes technical nature. Indonesian vine camouflage finds its way to the footbed in classic Carhartt collab fashion, and the outsole is both rugged and durable. The campaign video showcases the interplay between the outdoor leaning aesthetic of Salomon and the industrial metropolis nature of Carhartt.
We like to think of this as the brands most obvious attempt yet at promoting the ‘gorpcore’ aesthetic yet. Perfectly speaking to those who prefer to wear their Arc’tyrex jackets in the shower.
