Dan Murphy’s Opens Cellar Door with $160,000 Grange

This year Easter isn’t just a time for the little kids out there to indulge in the goodies. Thanks to everyone’s favourite uncle Dan, we big kids can now also enjoy the spoils. Dan Murphy’s has dropped a giant golden egg with the official opening of its latest, and greatest, establishment yet: The Cellar in Sydney’s Lane Cove. A wine cellar like no other, the new venture confirms that there’ll be no quick pit stops or in-and-out grog runs here. You’ll want to take your time and savour the experience much like the epic goodness it stocks.

The Cellar is the first of Dan Murphy’s new premium concept stores, and its most snooty store to date in NSW, but, don’t worry – there are no dress regulations. Boardies and thongs are all still sweet to wear when visiting Uncle Dan. The Cellar offers so much more than bang for your buck entrenched firmly in the quality over quantity range. In fact, we’re told there are about 350 labels so rare in the collection that The Cellar only has one or two on the shelf.

Its state of the art setting, highlighted by high tech temperature-controlled rooms and wine cabinets, features some of the world’s most sought-after wines including a 1951 bottle of Penfolds Grange worth a cool $160,000 big ones. Our sources tell us there are only around 35 bottles of the first vintage of Penfolds Grange left in existence the world over and The Cellar is home to one of them. How good is that?

Yes – this isn’t your average four-wall Dan Murphy’s store. This is the real McCoy and is sure to have serious consumers scrambling across the harbour bridge to get their hands of the good stuff. What’s more, customers also have digital access to The Cellar’s savvy team of sommeliers and wine experts to help you discover and explore their carefully crafted curation.

“We’re expecting some wine loving customers to travel interstate to visit us to discover the range and access the wines we have in this store. We can, of course, arrange for safe and convenient home delivery of these highly coveted drops as well,” Dan Murphy’s Cellar Lane Cove store manager Walter Henao said. “As a wine professional, I’m excited to be part of this new amazing concept! My team and I look forward to helping customers find the perfect wine at all price points, whether that’s $20 or $200,” Walter said.

Another stand out on The Cellar’s esteemed guest list includes Burgundy’s Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, arguably the world’s best Pinot Noir, which can be known to go for $20,000 per bottle. If you’re heading over this long weekend, be sure to check out the Icon Room, which houses the best of the best, with prices from $150 a bottle.

The Cellar offers on-demand tastings any day of the week as well as regular wine masterclasses, winemaker hosted tastings and even food and wine pairing nights. Just don’t forget your wallet! Dan Murphy’s The Cellar is located on 231 Burns Bay Rd, Lane Cove. Opening hours are Sunday to Wednesday from 10am to 8pm, Thursday to Saturday 10am to 9pm.
