Joshua Tree’s Dazzling ‘Invisible House’ Hits the Market for $26 Million

The Invisible House is an architectural marvel that defies belief. Located in the stunning Mojave Desert of Joshua Tree, California, this property is unlike anything else in the world. The concept was born from the idea of creating a home that blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings, with its architects wanting to create a house that was not only environmentally friendly but also one that would disappear into the landscape. And now, the camouflaged condo was can be yours for a cool $18 million (AUD$26 million). The question remains, how can you buy something you can’t even see?

At $18 million (AUD$26 million), it will be by far the most expensive home on the market in Joshua Tree, where the median price is around $400,000. The home is owned by Hollywood film producers Chris and Roberta Hanley, best known for their work on American Psycho. The Hanleys purchased the land in 2012 and spent the next decade building the home. In the early 2010s, they were living in a 720-square-foot prefab house on the land when they were informed that the home violated local regulations. In order to keep living on the land, they had to build something bigger.

The minimalistic structure sits on a nearly 4-acre lot and boasts a total of 5,500 square feet of living space. It’s made from a special heat-reflecting Solarcool glass that is completely transparent, allowing the desert landscape to be seen through the walls. This material is also extremely durable and can withstand harsh desert conditions. The interior of the Invisible House is just as unique as the exterior. Its rooms are spacious and open, with large windows that provide panoramic views of the desert scenery. The furniture is also invisible, adding to the illusion that the house is not really there.

Despite its invisible appearance, the Invisible House is fully equipped with all the modern amenities you would expect in a high-end home. The home features a combination of exposed wood, steel, and stone, and is designed to reflect the surrounding desert landscape due to its mirror-like exterior. Inside, the home has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a massive great room. The home also includes a state-of-the-art theatre, a pool, and an outdoor kitchen. The Invisible House is not just a marvel of architectural design, it is also a great example of sustainable living. It utilizes solar power for energy and has its own water harvesting system that collects rainwater for irrigation.

“Bringing the Invisible House to market for the first time ever is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Aaron Kirman of AKG | Christie’s International Real Estate in a press statement. “Brought to life by a visionary film producer and a Frank Gehry collaborator, this architectural triumph located in the middle of the desert provides unique intangibles that can only be experienced at the property itself.”

Used as an off-grid getaway of the stars, Invisible House has been rented by celebrities such as Lizzo, Diplo and Demi Lovato. The property has also featured in season two of The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals on Netflix and appeared in Bling Empire. Check out more images below.
