Mars Mission on Pause: Elon Musk is Building His Own Town in Texas Before Jumping Planets

Before building a new civilisation on Mars, starting with a slightly smaller project is perhaps smart.

Shifting focus from the chaos of his leadership at Twitter, Elon Musk has set his sights on constructing a company town for SpaceX, Tesla, and Boring employees. As The Wall Street Journal reported, Musk has acquired 3,500 acres of land in Texas with plans to establish a settlement for those interested. Love or loathe him, the tech billionaire commands a cult-like following, so we can expect the faithful to flock in droves. Additionally, it wouldn’t be shocking to see colossal statues of himself erected throughout the streets where devotees gather each Sunday to pay homage.

The project is reportedly set to be called Snailbrook, a reference to the mascot of Musk’s Boring Company. Ruling out the notion that this is all some elaborate prank by the wealthy meme-lord, the publication has cited several county deeds, internal company communications, state licensing records, and interviews with land owners and county officials. It also said that Boring employees had been invited to apply for housing, with two or three-bedroom rental properties up for grabs for roughly USD$800 a month (AU$1,209). In addition, the proposed company town is set to feature a Montessori school catering to the children of its residents and plans to conduct its own mayoral elections.

The proposed location for the company town is expected to be in Bastrop County, near Austin, where Musk currently runs factories for his various enterprises. In 2020, after Musk expressed his discontent with COVID-19 regulations, Tesla established a new Gigafactory in Austin, further solidifying his presence in the area.

The news of his purported town of Snailbrook will hopefully make for enthralling viewing in the upcoming documentary examining the life of the one and only Elon Musk.
