Inside Ryan Seacrest’s $76 Million Beverly Hills Estate Purchased by Tech-Royalty

The luxury real estate market may be down in the dumps, but it’s not all doom and gloom for some people. Just ask Brian Long, the CEO of USD$6 billion tech startup Attentive Mobile, and his wife Liz Day, an Emmy-winning reporter and veteran journalist for The New York Times. The couple recently shelled out a cool USD$51 million (AU$76 million) for Hollywood mogul Ryan Seacrest’s sprawling Beverly Hills estate, adding to their already impressive collection of trophy homes.

While USD$51 million (AU$76 million) may sound like an exorbitant amount of money to most people, it’s actually a bargain compared to Seacrest’s original asking price of USD$85 million. In fact, the property was on the market for so long that the asking price was eventually slashed to USD$59 million before the Long-Days swooped in with an all-cash offer.

The 3-acre property is one of Beverly Hills’ most private and secluded estates and has quite the celebrity pedigree. Built-in 1963 by noted architecture firm Buff & Hensman, the single-story main house was reportedly constructed for actor Laurence Harvey. It has also been owned by the likes of Joan Collins and Max Mutchnick, the creator of “Will & Grace.” In 2007, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi purchased the property and extensively remodelled the main house while buying up and demolishing neighbouring homes to expand the estate.

DeGeneres and de Rossi were married at the compound in 2008, the same year that same-sex marriage was legalized in California. The hilltop complex is now a private resort with every imaginable amenity, including two detached guesthouses, an underground car garage, a separate gym building, and a security/camera office for a live-in bodyguard.

The Long-Days’ new estate is less of a house and more of a private paradise. A long, gated driveway leads to a substantial motorcourt, complete with a koi pond and beautifully landscaped gardens. The 9,000-square-foot main house boasts four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a media room, and an open kitchen servicing multiple dining areas and al fresco patios.

The property also features sprawling lawns shaded by mature sycamore trees, an infinity pool, and a master suite with an apartment-sized walk-in closet and skylit shower. However, the underground garage is perhaps the most outrageous amenity, accessed via its own separately gated driveway and located directly under the swimming pool.

As the co-founder and CEO of Attentive, Long is in charge of the third-fastest-growing tech startup in the nation, with the company raising a staggering $860 million since its inception in 2016. Prior to that, Long sold his first tech startup to Twitter for a reported $100 million.

Day, on the other hand, is a supervising producer of “The New York Times Presents” documentary series and is widely credited with creating and producing “Framing Britney Spears.” The Emmy-winning documentary chronicled the pop star’s conservatorship and her fight for freedom, making headlines worldwide.
