To celebrate the incredible 125th anniversary of the Swiss Army Knife, Victorinox has launched a true replica knife based on the first original Swiss Army Knife. The “Replica 1897” is available in a limited quantity, however, with only 9,999 pieces up for grabs, each individually numbered and engraved with the year 1897.
For fans of the classic Swiss Army Knife, the new replica isn’t the only good news. The brand confirmed rumours that a time capsule had been found at its Ibach headquarters, contain some seriously prized possessions. According to Victorinox, the capsule was taken directly to the office of Carl Elsener, the great-grandson of founder Karl Elsener, where it was carefully opened to reveal an original Officer’s and Sports Knife. This is the knife that began it all in 1897, when Karl Elsener patented the original Officer’s and Sports Knife, known worldwide as the Swiss Army Knife.
This iconic product not only stands for functionality, reliability and quality but also for its iconic design and it is the absolute cornerstone of the brand’s history. The Replica 1897 looks exactly like the original on the outside, however, on the inside, it represents the latest in technology. The red vulcanised fibre scale material offers a warm and comfortable grip. The iconic embossing of “Elsener Schwyz” on the large blade and the proof of the patent “Gesetzlich Geschützt” (protected by law) on the screwdriver take us right back in time.
The latter was in fact an important selling point in 1897. Distinctive features of the Replica 1897 include the style of the pointy small blade, the original shape of the corkscrew, an awl perfectly integrated into the body of the pocket knife and a can opener with a unique technique.
The Replica 1897 is an ideal gift or collector’s item, this limited edition knife will be available from late June 2022 and can be purchased online in Australia for $999. The item comes with a certificate and is packaged in an attractive time capsule and box.
