While we are all getting excited about the Ford F-150 Lightning, there is another electric ute on the way from the Blue Oval. Recent speculation has emerged that it might be the Ranger electric, with all bets placed on Ford tightening the bolts on its EV strategy. A Ranger Lightning does make strategical sense being the second chapter for Ford’s electric pick-up range after the flagship F-150 Lightning. Most probably, the new electric truck is based on the new Ranger while its power output could eclipse the Ranger Raptor too with EVs being at the forefront for Ford.

Ford F-150 Lightning
Just like the F-150 Lightning, the Ranger EV could have an extended range battery pack with more power along with the promise of a healthy range. Ford is already first in the race to bring a mainstream EV pick-up while rivals continue to grapple with supply issues or are taking their own sweet time to come (We’re looking at you, Tesla).
The Ranger Lightning could be an aggressive follow-up to that and we may see it as early as next year with production expected to begin in Tennessee. Plus, unlike the F-150 Lightning, the Ranger EV Ute could be a significant launch for the Australian market since the flagship F-150 seems to be eluding us for the time being. The F-150 Lightning already has racked up a large order book in its native US market being sold out for years hence, fulfilling the high demand there is the first priority before being launched in other markets.
With the Ranger EV, things could swing our way a bit faster with the Australian market expected to get it much earlier. Of course, we can only speculate at this juncture but our money is on the Ranger in being the next EV truck from Ford.
