Mercedes Benz Gets into Van Life with the Metris Weekender

Van life is pretty popular right now, and if you’re looking for a travel van that comes with a trusted name, then the Mercedes-Benz Metris Weekender is what you’re thinking of. The Metris seats five and sleeps four, and is priced to sell at $70,000.

For the $70k, you’ll be getting more than you bargained for. The Metris comes with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that offers 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. That much power gives the Weekender a 5,000 pound towing capacity, so you’ll be able to bring your toys along with you. The van is rear wheel driven and uses a seven-speed automatic transmission. The elevated roof section houses a spring system that is integrated into the van. Open it up and you‘ll find a two-inch memory foam mattress that can sleep up to two people. Under that roof section, the van’s rear bench seats open up into a bed for two. The front seats are built onto swivels that let them turn 180 degrees, creating a common space in the back for visiting and other activities—and with a second battery, those activities can include movies and video games. The one catch is that there isn’t a bathroom, but that’s why there are public restrooms, right?

Mercedes offers plenty of options for the Weekender, including integrated solar panels and roof racks. You can get a 3M wrap with 200 different colour choices as well. A “pullout rear kitchen” is another option, which features everything you need to set up a camp cooking area. You can select to get an eight-foot awning, bug screens for the rear hatch, sliding doors, and even a detachable tent (for that fifth passenger that doesn’t have a sleeping spot inside the van). Finally, if you’re one of the first 100 buyers, you can get a free U.S. National Parks Pass. The Mercedes Benz Metric Weekender will be available this Spring.
