Earth Motorcycles’ 1993 BMW R100RT ‘Halier’ Transforms a German Icon

There’s a small town in the Trencin Region of western Slovakia near the Czech border that is home to Earth Moto. A small operation in terms of other custom bike builders, Earth Moto is building an impressive reputation for its builds, largely because of its commitment to maintaining the highest standards and for creating absolutely stunning bikes. As a prime example of their work, you can consider their 1993 BMW R100RT Halier. Based on a 1993 R100RT, the Halier exemplifies what this little shop can do.

The centrepiece of this build is the bike’s 980cc twin-engine, which Earth Moto gave a full mechanical overhaul, pulling and cleaning every single part. The engine received new piston rings, valve guides, governor springs, a cam chain kit, stainless steel cam rod followers, clutch plate, starter, a stainless steel choke system, NGK spark plugs, engine cover, and fluids.

The stock Bing carburettors were vapour blasted and sent through an ultrasonic cleaning before being reinstalled with a new set of K&N pod filters. Newly restored, the engine was returned to its former capacity of 60 horsepower. While the engine was out of the chassis, Earth Moto seized the chance to shave down and detab the frame. They also removed the subframe, replacing it with a steel seat pan, which also acts as the structural element of the new seat.

The original telescopic fork was reworked, shortening it by two inches to give the bike a more aggressive stance and to improve performance. A new exhaust set up was installed, necessitating the removal of the bike’s centre stand. The original fuel-cell was kept after being refreshed on the outside and the inside. As things were prepped to be put back together, the frame, swing-arm, seat-pan, wheels, shock, triple tree, and fork lowers all received a professional black powder coating.

The result of all the labor is an impressive homage to the early decades of BMW motorcycles. The Spartan build shows just how dedicated Earth Moto is to creating only the best looking bikes, and it offers up ample evidence of their incredible skill.
