Ferrari challenege stradale crash in melbourne

Devastating Scenes as Rare Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale Crashes in Melbourne

It’s a sad day for supercar lovers when we see icons involved in a wreck, but it’s especially sad when it’s one of the all-time greats. Just after visiting a cars and coffee event in South Yarra on Sunday morning, a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale had its life cut short after meeting the side of a Nissan Navara ute on the corner of Punt Road and Park Place. It’s understood the car slid underneath the ute, lifting it up off the ground.

The car is owned by a known collector in the Melbourne area and is likely 1 of 8 sold new in Australia, 1 of 114 RHD produced, and 1 of 1199 globally. It’s visually similar to this 2004 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale currently for sale at Melbourne’s Dutton Garage for a measly $600,000 AUD. And while it can’t be confirmed if this is the same car, it appears the two are visually identical. The crashed car originally wore a two-tone red steering, however, it appears to have been changed to a black steering wheel at some point in its life.

Sporting a 3.6-litre V8 with 305KW the Ferrari was capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds when it was released back in the early 2000s. Of course, that’s relatively average for cars today, with EVs accelerating just as fast, but we’re far more interested in the symphony of noise from the engine.

This YouTube video by Marchettino is a tribute to that great engine note and will always be a favourite of ours.

Regardless of the fact, we’re glad all three drivers involved escaped without serious injury. It’s impressive to see the strength of a 20-year-old Ferrari with minimal safety features still intact after meeting a modern dual-cab ute with a bullbar. Police are still investigating the cause behind the crash.
