Leica’s Sofort 2 is a Hybrid Instant Film Camera with Analogue Charm

Leica is back in the world of instant cameras with the highly anticipated Sofort 2, the follow up to 2016’s surprisingly fun Leica Sofort. Wrapped in a sleek and stylish design, this hybrid camera “seamlessly combines fleeting digital moments with the enduring analogue world” and comes packed with an array of “fun features to fully enable one’s creativity”.

The second-generation Sofort (which gets its name from the German word for ‘instant’) is a versatile hybrid camera that lets you click photos in the traditional analog style with Instax Mini format or go digital and store them in the camera’s memory or a microSD card. Afterwards, you can effortlessly sift through your gallery using the Leica Fotos app, to pick and edit your favourite shots for printing by transferring them to the Sofort 2 via the app to print.

Leica’s Sofort 2 brings modern design and user-friendly features to today’s photographers, combining a clean, contemporary design with a 3-inch, 460,000-dot rear LCD screen. The camera offers both analog and digital options, giving photographers the freedom to choose their preferred style, which aligns perfectly with the trend of user-centric versatility in photography.

The Sofort 2 measures a compact 123 x 87 x 44mm and is designed to fit comfortably in your hand. The camera’s flexible auto exposure controls will guarantee optimal brightness in your shots, in any environment.

The Sofort 2 is equipped with a 28mm-equivalent lens and features a versatile variable aperture ranging from f/2 to f/16, a minimum focus distance of 10cm, and automatic exposure control. Its expansive shutter speed range, spanning from 1/4 sec to 1/8000 sec, and the ability to toggle the flash on or off, make it a remarkably flexible shooter in the realm of instant cameras. This versatility enables you to capture well-exposed prints in various scenarios, whether you’re shooting in bright sunlight or indoors.

For digital enthusiasts, the Sofort 2 records onto a 2560 x 1920 pixel sensor, equivalent to 4.9MP, allowing you to store an impressive 850 shots on a 1GB microSD card. Alternatively, it offers a 45-shot internal memory for your convenience. With the camera’s 10 different lenses and 10 film effects, you have the option to personalise your shots even more. Leica has produced its own film packs, which come in either white or gold borders, but you can also use Fujifilm’s Instax Mini film, which is a cheaper option for shooting with the Sofort 2.

It comes with a USB-3.1 Gen1 Type-C interface and a standard 1/4-inch tripod thread on the bottom. The Leica Sofort 2 will be available in black, white, and that iconic Leica red, with deliveries starting November 10, priced at AUD$649.
