The Creator of ‘Ready Player One’ is Launching His Own Metaverse

Oscar Wilde once quipped that life imitates art and Ernest Cline, author of 2011’s VR escapism epic Ready Player One, seems to be taking that quite literally. The 51-year-old novelist has joined hands with Dan Farah, the producer of the Spielberg-directed film adaptation and Futureverse, an AI and metaverse company, to launch Readyverse Studios. Described as a “first-of-its-kind studio”, The Readyverse is aiming to build the ultimate destination for fans to explore their favourite stories and IP in the metaverse.

The newly formed Readyverse Studios plans to launch The Readyverse, a “dynamic interactive platform of interconnected digital experiences.” These experiences will blend iconic franchises into a dynamic, interconnected AR/VR platform, with the first franchise the studio aims to bring The Readyverse is of course Ready Player One.

As per the press release, Readyverse Studios has teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery to “exclusively bring the Ready Player One franchise to the metaverse across web3.” Additional “brands and franchises joining The Readyverse will be announced soon,” the press release adds.

That’s not all, however. Readyverse Studios also revealed that it is “laying the groundwork to bring the promise of the open metaverse depicted in Cline’s ‘Ready Player One‘ novel and the blockbuster film adaptation into a tangible reality; a multi-world, multi-IP, interoperable open metaverse experience for mass consumers.”

While there’s not much to go by about what this so-called ‘Ready Player One‘ metaverse will be like and how users will be able to interact, the company says it expects to launch sometime in 2024.

“The future has arrived even more quickly than I imagined. With Readyverse Studios, we have the opportunity to leverage the revolutionary technology Futureverse has been building for several years to bring to life the best possible version of the metaverse,” novelist and co-founder of Readyverse Studios, Ernest Cline said. “I’m confident with this team, we have the brightest minds and biggest hearts in place to lead us into the next chapter of our collective future… a future that would make Wade Watts and James Halliday proud.”

According to Futureverse, which was co-founded by Shara Senderoff and Aaron McDonald, “The Readyverse will champion the principles of the open metaverse, which are provable digital ownership, community-owned infrastructure, decentralization, security and interoperability.”

Dan Farah, co-founder of Readyverse Studios added, “Readyverse Studios will offer exciting new metaverse opportunities for Hollywood studios, talent, and brands to create new revenue streams and creative outlets for brand expansion while offering consumers the ability to enjoy the promise of the open metaverse.”
