‘Budget Gamers Dream’: New Lenovo LOQ Series is Capable and Cost Effective

Lenovo is locking down its gaming division by introducing its new LOQ gaming laptops and Tower PC for new gamers. Catering to new gamers’ first foray into gaming, Lenovo LOQ (pronounced lock) is leveraging powerful future-proof PCs that share DNA with the Lenovo Legion series of gaming laptops.

Available in either 16-inch or 15-inch, the LOQ laptops will feature 13th Gen Intel Core or AMD Ryzen 7000 Series CPUs, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs, with the Tower PC bringing bold aesthetics, expandable memory and robust CPU and GPU configurations to round out the release.

Helping gamers maintain their competitiveness no matter what lobby they’re in, you’re going to have to “git gud” before these Lenovo LOQ gaming devices arrive.

Lenovo wants everyone to enjoy gaming, not just those that can afford a Threadripper or i9 processor. Opening the door to high-performance gaming for less, the LOQ series of computers put to rest the idea that gaming requires a high-end gaming PC. Now, that’s not to say these computers aren’t impressive. According to their press release, these gaming devices “are packed with features without breaking the bank,” but we’ll be the judge of that once we get our hands on the series for review.

“With the launch of the new Lenovo LOQ brand, we’re building a lineage of gaming excellence and PC offerings that are not just for the gaming community’s top players but for new and future gamers alike,” said Jun Ouyang, Lenovo’s vice president and general manager of the Consumer Business Segment, Intelligent Devices Group. “Lenovo LOQ breaks down barriers to entry for gamers, empowering them to embark on adventures of connection and fun in the gaming world.”

The new Lenovo LOQ gaming laptop lineup includes the Intel-based Lenovo LOQ 16IRH8 and Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 laptops, the Lenovo LOQ Tower 17IRB8 desktop PC, and the AMD-based Lenovo LOQ 16APH8 and Lenovo LOQ 15APH8 laptops, providing plenty of options to beginner and seasoned gamers.

Lenovo LOQ Gaming Laptops

The Lenovo LOQ gaming portfolio provides plenty of options for new players, regardless of screen size. 15 or 16 inches is more than enough for immersive gaming in a smaller form factor. And with the super-charged processor options – up to a 13th Gen Intel Core or AMD Ryzen 7000 Series CPU – alongside NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, these LOQ Windows 11 gaming devices are absolute powerhouses. Even more so with up to 16GB 5600MHz DDR5 RAM and support up to 32GB storage, and up to a 1TB PCIe SSD (sold separately).

Moreover, the Lenovo LOQ gaming notebooks with NVIDIA GPUs feature a MUX switch that bypasses the integrated GPU during gameplay sessions via NVIDIA Advanced Optimus. This NVIDIA-exclusive feature enables NVIDIA graphics cards to communicate directly with the display, resulting in higher frames-per-second with lower latency, allowing games to function more smoothly and look better.

And when you’re not gaming, the MUX Switch swaps back to integrated graphics for improved battery life.

The powerful internals of the laptop is kept cool by up to four heat pipes, dual 85mm 12V high-speed fans, and extra-large air intakes and outlets totalling up to 135W TDP while remaining silent and whisper quiet. As for battery life and charging, all laptops have a 140W charging-enabled USB-C port. However, battery sizes do differ between models. The 16-inch Lenovo LOQ gaming laptops feature an 80Wh battery with up to 7 hours of battery life and support for fast charging. On the other hand, the 15-inch Lenovo LOQ laptops have a smaller 60Whr battery (likely due to the smaller form factor) for up to 6 hours of battery, with fast charging functionality.

Display-wise, the Lenovo LOQ 16IRH8 and Lenovo LOQ 16APH8 have up to a 16-inch 350 nit 16:10 WQXGA 165Hz VRR display, while the Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 and Lenovo LOQ 15APH8 have up to a 15-inch 350 nit 16:9 WQHD 165Hz VRR display. Both displays also support NVIDIA G-SYNC, which immerses the player in a world of vivid colours, crisp contrast, and a fast refresh rate for seamless action and buttery smooth movement.

And to top it all off, Lenovo threw in their LA AI Chip – the same one found in Lenovo Legion laptops — to tune wattage and thermal performance, optimising in-game framerates dynamically and machine learning to analyse usage habits to further improve gaming performance over time.

Oh, and the keyboard has optional 4-zone RGB backlighting! Woo Gaming!

Lenovo LOQ Gaming Tower

Aiming to become the ideal choice for first-time desktop gamers, the Lenovo LOQ Tower offers future-proof expandability and bold aesthetics that tick all boxes for the ultimate gamer vibe.

Its blue-accented 2D and 3D striped patterns on the front of the spacious 17L chassis are a nod to the Lenovo Legion gaming pedigree that not only looks sharp but also provides increased ventilation that allows the up to 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700 CPU and up to the latest NVIDIA RTX 40-Series GPUs to breathe during heavy gaming sessions.

Gamers can expand memory to 32GB 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, and storage choices include a 2TB 3.5″ 7200RPM SATA HDD2, a 1TB PCIe NVMeTM TLC M.2 2280 SSD2, and support for up to 1 SSD and 2 HDDs.

We have great hopes for the Lenovo LOQ gaming device series, but until we get our hands on them, there’s no telling whether our hopes will be met or dashed. That being said, with a plethora of hardware choices and a wide range of features on offer, the Lenovo LOQ could be an excellent choice for anyone – beginner or regular gamer – looking for a powerful PC at a reasonable price.
