After teasing that the incredibly popular Squid Game would finish with a third and final season, Netflix has given us our first look at the upcoming Season 3 and told us when we can expect to see the end of the game: June 27, 2025.

For those that haven’t yet jumped into the game, Squid Game is the story of a secret series of games that bring hundreds of down-on-their-luck people in as contestants, hoping to win the final jackpot and turn their fortunes around. Unfortunately, the don’t know that losing any game will lead to their brutal death, which further increases the jackpot for those that remain—all for the entertainment of the games’ wealthy patrons.

The series follows Gi-hun through his initial dealings with the games in Season 1, and his attempt to understand and destroy the games from the inside in Season 2, and following the devastating cliffhanger ending of last season (no spoilers just yet), Season 3 is sure to kick off with a bang.

Check out the ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Teaser Trailer

While we’ve known that season 3 was coming for a while—series creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk announced as such when he revealed we were getting a second season back in 2024.

“Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of season one returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time, either,” he said at the time. “The fierce clash between two worlds will continue into the series finale with season three, which will be brought to you next year.”

Well, now we’ve been given our first look at the beginning of the pair’s final confrontation.

Unsurprisingly, Gi-hun is back in the game—carried back in within the black boxes used for killed players. We also get a bit of a look into some of the new games we’ll be seeing this season, including a gum-ball game that seems designed to separate the players into teams for something nefarious.

Confirmed Cast (So Far)

Despite the fact Squid Game is a series predicated on the idea of killing off much of its cast, we do have a few returning faces coming back for the end of this bloody story: Front Man returns, as does series protagonist Gi-Hun and detective Hwang Hun-Ho. In fact, much of Season 2’s surviving cast returns.

See the confirmed cast list so far below:

  • Lee Jung-jae as Gi-hun (Player 456)
  • Lee Byung-hun as Front Man
  • Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-ho
  • Yim Si-wan as Myung-gi (Player 333)

What Can We Expect from Season 3?

I’d advise anyone that hasn’t watched either the first or second season of Squid Game to go do so before reading anymore—spoilers are now in play.

At the end of Season 2, Gi-hun’s rebellion is shattered by the machinations of Front Man—the leader of the game: an act that leads to the death of many of Gi-hun’s allies, including his close friend Jung-bae. Gi-hun, however, is captured alive and returned to the pit to play out what remains of the game, alongside those that didn’t rebel. We’re sure the myriad deaths at the end of the second season have increased the prize pool substantially, which will only spur on more desperation from the contestants.

We’re not sure why Gi-hun wasn’t simply killed for his actions, but season 2 did a good job of showing how fascinated by Gi-Hun Front Man is, who joined the game under the guise of Player 001 in order to watch Gi-hun more closely. Throughout the season, Player 001 witnessed Gi-hun’s selfless nature break against the reality of the need to survive, ultimately culminating in the rebellious plan, which required many people to die in a riot before the guards would arrive.

Our guess is that Front Man wants to push Gi-hun further, and see how far the previous winner will go to survive and destroy the game from the inside, while also observing how the remaining contestants will respond to Gi-hun’s return: given that many have died as a result of his actions.
