Billions – Season 6

This is the big one. The second-half of Billions season five finally hits the streaming platform, dropping us straight into an all-out business war. Billionaire Mike Prince is still f*cking with Axe Capital and Chuck Rhoades continues to plan his fight with Bobby Axelrod. Expect fireworks, swearing and some serious fallout.

Wu-Tang: An American Saga

Ah shit. This might just be the most gangster new series on Stan. Wu-Tag: An American Saga chronicles the history and formation of the legendary hip-hop group at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic in early-’90s New York. Hard knocks and big hits, it’s no wonder the Wu-Tang Clan weren’t nothing to f*ck with.

Black Mafia Family

Coming close second in the gangster ranks, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s new series Black Mafia Family tells the story of one of the most successful and influential drug cartels in America. Founded by two brothers, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory back in 1989, the pair set up cocaine distribution sales throughout the US with their LA-based drug source that would supply them direct links to Mexican cartel groups for product importation into America. Empires building empires.

We’re not really sure what to make of this one. With perennial favourite Stephen Graham teaming up with Daniel Mays for a buddy cop series set in the near future, anything could happen. Worth a watch at least.

Patton Oswalt and Glenn Howerton return for the fourth season of this under the radar banger. With all the humour of It’s Always Sunny, paired with the laid-back style of Community, this one should really be top of your list.

Deceit

It wouldn’t be a new on Stan round-up if we didn’t include some kind of murder mystery. This four-part drama examines the controversial honeytrap at the heart of the high-pressure investigation into the devastating murder of Rachel Nickell in 1992. Morals are tested when an undercover officer is asked to become sexual bait for a suspected killer. Spooky.

Best New Movies on Stan in September 2021

Streamline

A little skint on new feature films this month, Stan has decided to go size 17 big with this flick. Pulled from the mind of Olympic legend Ian Thorpe, Streamline follows a talented 15-year-old swimming prodigy whose disciplined world collapses in on itself when his long-absent father is released from prison. Heavy stuff from the Thorpedo.

Best Documentaries on Stan in September 2021

The Conservation Game

Remember Carole Baskin? That crazy with who went toe to toe with Joe Exotic and won? Turns out she’s back in one of the strangest cameos of 2021. The Conservation Game is a new documentary featuring Carole and Howard Baskin that explores the largely unregulated U.S. trade in exotic animals, especially big cats like lions, tigers, and leopards and their connection to celebrity conservationists. Less ridiculous than Tiger King, but probably just as contentious.

The Dissident

A poignant release, The Dissident explains the disappearance of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. When he goes missing after entering Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul, his fiancée and dissidents around the world are left to piece together the clues to a brutal murder and expose a global cover-up perpetrated by the very country he loved.
