‘Lifetime Supply of Mac and Cheese’: Every Gift Carlos Yulo Received for His Gold Medals in Paris

While Australians competing for gold at the Olympics will walk home with a $20,000 check for gold, $15,000 for silver, and $10,000 for bronze under the Australian Olympic Committee’s medal incentive fund, the same rules don’t apply to other countries. Carlos Yulo, a gymnast from the Philippines, will receive a lottery-level haul with half a million dollars to his name and a lifetime supply of free ramen, mac and cheese, and colonoscopies (yep) for his gold medal efforts.

The Olympian took home gold in the ‘Men’s Floor·Artistic gymnastics’ and ‘Men’s Vault·Artistic gymnastics’, and it’s safe to say the whole country is celebrating his wins as the only Filipino athlete to come home with a medal so far. Furthermore, these gold medals are the country’s second (and third) Olympic golds, and he’s been handsomely remunerated for his efforts.

The Philippines government has pledged 10 million pesos (AU$266,000) to the 24-year-old, and he’s been promised an additional 6 million pesos (AU$159,000) in cash incentives by the House of Representatives. However, no amount of money can stack up to a lifetime supply of free ramen, mac and cheese, and colonoscopies.

Every Gift Carlos Yulo Received for His Gold Medal:

  • 10 million pesos (AU$266,000) from the Philippines government
  • 6 million pesos (AU$159,000) in cash incentives from the House of Representatives
  • 24,000,000 pesos (AU$638,000) Two-bedroom condo in McKinley Hill township from Filipino real estate company Megaworld
  • A lifetime supply of FREE ramen from Hagemu Sushi and Ramen Bar in Calasiao
  • A lifetime supply of FREE Mac and Cheese
  • A lifetime supply of FREE Chicken
  • A lifetime of FREE consultations and colonoscopies from a gastroenterologist
  • Finally, FREE university credits from the University of Mindanao

On the gifts, Hagemu Sushi and Ramen Bar in Calasiao might have the strongest case, offering Yulo a lifetime supply of FREE ramen in a social media post reading, “Congratulations to our very own Golden Boy on clinching his second gold medal in men’s artistic gymnastics – vault!… To celebrate your outstanding achievement, we are thrilled to extend a special gift: FREE LIFETIME RAMEN not just for you but also for your wonderful and supportive girlfriend, Chloe Anjeleigh. Enjoy the taste of victory and love with every bowl!”

Beyond the gifts, Yulo will be given a “hero’s welcome” when he returns to his hometown of Manila. The mayor, Honey Lacuna, told the BBC: “The grandest welcome will greet him and all our Paris Olympians. When we meet him, we will present Carlos Yulo cash incentives, awards, and symbols of the eternal gratitude of the proud capital city of the Philippines.”

While Yulo has been inundated with support and gifts from his country, athletes from Hong Kong are still the biggest winners at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with gold medal winners raking in $1.17 million. Winners from Singapore get $1.13 million for winning gold, which isn’t too shabby either.
