Oliver Peoples and Assouline Give a New Look at California

As luxury eyewear goes, Oliver Peoples is one of the leaders in the industry. Originating out of West Hollywood, California, the company has been around since 1987 and is owned by Luxottica. You can find their glasses in Oliver People’s boutiques and their online store, as well as many fashion boutiques and department stores worldwide.

Their glasses are manufactured in Italy and Japan. Peoples has been a part of celebrity culture for years. They were spotlighted on the cover of German Vogue the same year they were founded, and have appeared in GQ, Vogue, Elle L’Uomo Vogue, Esquire, and Vanity Fair. You’ve probably also seen their glasses in movies and on TV.

Michael Westen wore Victory sunglasses in Burn Notice; Bruce Willis wore O’Malleys in The Jackal; Brad Pitt wore three different Peoples in Fight Club. The list goes on. And it’s not just film, but music also. Bono wears Peoples. Even Australian Prime Minster Julia Gillard has been seen wearing Ashtons.

With such a pedigree, it makes sense for Oliver Peoples to team up with Assouline Publishing is a natural fit; together the companies launched California As We See It. The book explores the lifestyle of Los Angeles by taking readers on a visual journey of Oliver Peoples history. In conjunction with the book, Oliver Peoples designed limited edition glasses that features a sun lens clip on as well as custom packaging. The glasses were inspired by the geometric midcentury architecture of Palm Springs, which features prominently in the book.
