Living in a big city like Sydney certainly has its perks, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. In the rat race that is our everyday lives, it’s often necessary to just take a break and get away from it all, but that doesn’t mean you have to drive hours on end to find sanctuary.
Sometimes all you need is to treat yourself to a staycation (or a holistay as some like to call it)—a little getaway right in your very own city or country for that matter.
That’s where the West Hotel comes in.
Located in the stylish Barangaroo precinct, the boutique West Hotel is a chic yet charming hotel that offers everything you need to feel like you’ve escaped the mad city rush, even if just for a night.
The hotel architecture and design surely doesn’t fall short. The building was designed by Fitzpatrick + Partners while the interiors were designed by Woods Bagot. At first glance, the most distinctive feature from the outside, is the geometric façade that’s been made with 333 individual panels of smoked glass, which is the first of its kind in Australia.
Then as you enter, you are welcomed by a range of beautiful interiors made up of different patterns, colours and textures that were all inspired by the Australian landscape.
Once you’re all settled in and have spent some time enjoying the comfort of your room and welcome snack, make sure you head down to Solander Bar to have one of their bespoke cocktails at the mesmerising emerald green terrazzo surrounding the bar area. Personally, I recommend the De La Rosa cocktail, and they make a pretty mean classic too. For those that love a good happy hour special, they have a daily happy hour from 5 pm – 7 pm with a good selection of drinks, cocktails and bar snacks.
Whether you head out for a charming evening in Barangaroo or dine in at the exquisite Solander Dining, make sure you don’t miss out on the in-house breakfast the next morning. You can order a la carte or join the breakfast buffet, or in my case, get in on both. Green juice, Chia puddings, delicious pastries and avo toast just to name a few. It’s breakfast heaven indeed.
And that folks, is how you do a Sydney staycation.
Thanks for hosting us West Hotel. It’s was an absolute joy.
